Thomas Pieters Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Thomas Pieters set to make his 2022 PGA Tour debut
It's been a few years since Thomas Pieters played much golf on this side of the pond. Pieters showed some flashes with a strong 4th place finish at the 2017 Masters. Inconsistent play and failed conversion attempts in other PGA Tour starts left Pieters to find his game again by returning to a full-time role on the European Tour. With two European tour wins in the last six months Pieters has seen his world ranking climb inside the top 50 for the first time since the 2017 season. With this new ranking comes a great opportunity to play in bigger events stateside. Via his top 50 official world golf ranking, Pieters should have a spot in the four majors this year as well as a debut in The Players Championship. That means we should see Pieters with a hand full of starts prior to the big events. Making his 3rd career start at the Genisis invitational this week, Pieters is gaining a bit of POWN buzz. Priced much lower than his OWGR, Pieters stands out as a golfer worth taking a shot on for the week. Always regarded as a strong and talented golfer, Pieters should not surprise anyone if he continues his strong play to start the 2022 PGA Tour season.
Thomas Pieters set to make his 2019 PGA Tour debut
Just a few years ago Thomas Pieters appeared on to be on a collision course with greatness. With three European wins and a successful Ryder Cup appearance under his belt, Pieters became a player of note in terms of up and coming talent. Still playing part-time between the European and PGA Tour's Pieters posted a couple of strong finishes on the PGA Tour highlighted by a 4th place finish at the 2017 Masters and a 6th place finish at last year's PGA Championship. Outside of those strong finishes, Pieters has been plagued by some inconsistent golf which has, in turn, has made it much harder to gain access into events due to a decrease in his world ranking. Exempt into next week's PGA Championship, Pieters has gained access to this week's Byron Nelson via a sponsors invitation. When prices originally came out I had hoped to see this forgotten European player priced down a bit more than his actual price but as the week progresses, and the roster building process begins to take shape you can begin to make a case for Pieters as a strong mid-range option for the week. Although Pieters has a middle of the pack Pt/$/K projection our experts still have him ranked as one of the better mid-range values for the week. Still considered by many to be a talent worth betting on in the long run, Pieters has both the talent and experience to be a strong option in what is an overall weak field.
Thomas Pieters provides upside at a discount
Thomas Pieters enters this week with hopes of finally turning the corner on a prolonged slump. With six top tens in majors or WGC over the last few seasons, Pieters quickly asserted himself as a player ready to take the next big step in his career. Unfortunately, over the last 18 months, Pieters has played poor and inconsistent golf. From DFS darling to a player only worth a spot as a GPP flyer, Pieters makes for a great choice of value with the option of upside for this week. Still an extremely talented golfer, Pieters has the game to both play well at this course and the ability to crush DFS scoring. Priced down due to his poor recent form Pieters is the type of player that can outperform his salary in light of a high finish. The nice thing about a golfer like Pieters is that we are not just rostering him for the hopes of bridies and eagles. With two top 25 or better finishes in two of his three attempts at this tournament, there is a realistic chance that Pieters can contend for a top 15 or better which would guarantee that he outperforms his salary.
Thomas Pieters looks to rebound from a poor season
At this point in the 2016 season, Thomas Pieters was perhaps one of the more exciting young players on The European Tour. Fresh off playing well in the Ryder Cup, Pieters quickly became the darling of the DFS community. As a fearless golfer that can hit it as far as anyone in the game, Pieters is the type of player that can absolutely crush DraftKings scoring. Unfortunately for Pieters things did not quite go his way over the last two seasons. While there were signs of his potential, Pieters played poorly this last season failing to make his second Ryder Cup team last month. Playing in his second CIMB Classic, and with hopes of rebounding from a poor stretch of golf, Pieters is a value play worth paying attention to this week. The talent is still there for Pieters, and at $7,500 he makes for a great option in GPP's for The CIMB Classic.
Bombs Away!
We haven’t seen him much on the PGA Tour lately, but this course is a nice fit for a bomber like Pieters. His risk/reward nature should benefit him, and the fact that this is a no-cut event also helps the outlook. He got some experience here last year and should fare much better in his second trip. He has the most top ten upside out of all the value-priced golfers this week.
Thomas Pieters flying under the radar this week
In what has been an overall disappointing season, Thomas Pieters heads into the 148th playing of The British Open with very little fan fair. Due to inconsistent early season play, and a steady fall in the world golf rankings, Pieters was forced to miss The U.S. Open in June. Once regarded as a young player to take notice of, Pieters hopes to turn his season around with a strong showing this week. With a strong showing at last week's Scottish Open and that included 4 rounds in the sixties, Pieters posted his first top ten finish since January. In order to take down a big tournament like the Milly Maker, it's often important to take a risk on a low owned player. Still a very talented golfer, Pieters is currently projected to have an ownership level under 5% for the week and represents a great opportunity to buy low on a golfer with a ton of upside.
Thomas Pieters flying under the radar ahead of this year’s Masters
Regarded as a very talented young player to keep an eye on, Thomas Pieters heads into this week in a very similar position to last year’s Masters. In five events prior to last year’s Masters Pieters showcased both his talent and downside. In addition to two top-five finishes, Pieters also missed two cuts. As a rookie in last year’s Masters, Pieters ended up having a 4.5 ownership share and finished in the 4th overall position in terms of DraftKings points. Early ownership projections for the first major of the season have Pieters once again trending towards a very low number. While Pieters has not exactly set the PGA Tour on fire this season, he does have the game to compete and play well this week. In order to take down a big GPP such as the Milly Maker, you will need to consider taking a risk on a potential low owned option that has a ton of upside. Many in the golf community hold Thomas Pieters in high regard, and this week offers us a chance to get exposure to a talented player at what could be a very low ownership.
Thomas Pieters looks to bounce back from poor showing at WGC Match Play
With the Masters right around the corner, the DFS golf world is in high anticipation of the first major of 2018. In order to help fill some of the big GPP's offered during major championship week's DraftKings will publish contests and prices a few weeks early with hopes of gaining steam prior to the start of the event. One way to use early pricing to our advantage is to compare prices for players who are in both The Houston Open and The Masters. With prices for The Masters set almost two weeks ago we have a chance to attack any pricing discrepancies we might find for this week's event. Comming off a poor performance during the WGC Match Play last week, Thomas Pieters stands out as a good value for this week's Houston Open. At $7,500, Pieters receives an $800 discount from his price for next week's Masters and should be considered a strong play for not only this week but also for Augusta. Pieters will make his Houston Open debut this week and should find the course to his liking. As one of the longer courses on the PGA Tour, Redstone can often favor the long hitters, and Pieters is without a doubt a player who can perform well on a bombers paradise. Often thought of as a boom or bust type of player, Pieters surprising comes into this week as a source of consistency. Having made his last 12 worldwide cuts Pieters has more than enough game to pay off his salary this week. While most players would rather not win on the week prior to a major, it's not uncommon to see golfers peak earlier than expected and grab an unexpected win. Pieters will be a popular play this week, but his talent and low price should merit a strong roster consideration for all formats for The 2018 Houston Open.
Thomas Pieters set to make his 2018 PGA Tour debut
With his second-place finish at last year's Genisis Open, Thomas Pieters began to make his presence known on the PGA Tour. This 26-year-old player from Belgium divides his time between both the European and PGA Tours. Currently ranked inside the top 40 in the world, Pieters posted 5 top 15 or better finishes in 12 starts last season. Last week we saw a very talented Rafael Cabrera Bello priced too low in comparison to his talent on DraftKings thus making him one of the more popular plays of the week. Early ownership projections have Pieters headed in that same direction. With the proven talent to compete with the biggest names on Tour, Pieters feels a bit underpriced at $7,700. Pieters has played twice this calendar year on the European Tour, including a fifth-place finish at The Abu Dhabi Championship last month. Known for his length off the tee, Pieters should once again be in play at Rivera and makes for a great play in all format.
Thomas Pieters possibly flying under the radar
At the age of 25, Thomas Pieters has yet to make a big impact on the game of golf. Like many other foreign, players this 33rd ranked player in the world divides his time in between the European and PGA Tour's. In 12 PGA tour starts last season Pieters made seven cuts and posted 5 top 25 or better finishes. Known for his prolific distance, Pieters has the ability to make birdies in bunches. Many in the DFS community jumped on the Pieters bandwagon after his top-five finish at last year's Masters, but inconsistent recent form has since decreased the interest in this very talented young player. Late week ownership projections show Pieters to be a somewhat low owned option for this week's tournament. All things considered, Pieters has the talent and game to compete with the best players in the world. The blend of his talent and price is just too great to ignore, and the ability to get Pieters at low ownership makes this an excellent spot for a leverage play in large field GPP's.
