Tiger Woods Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Weather update for The Memorial

Kevin Roth’s weather report for this week’s Workday Charity Open has just been recently updated and is now available to read on his weather page. WIth Thursday weather being potentially ugly for most of the day we could see our first significant tee time weather draw of the restart. As the day progresses on Thursday the chances for rain and or wind increases and golfers could see wind gusts top the 25 mph range. With the Friday weather predicted to be the same throughout the day, the disparity in the weather draw will most likely take place on Thursday. Keep in mind that weather could suspend things on Thursday throwing a small wrench in the idea of one wave having an edge. If you are building multiple lineups this week then you can stack tee time waves in order to gain a potential edge.

Tiger Woods looks to break record at the course where it all started

With the total wins on tour record firmly in his grasp, Tiger Woods will tee up at Rivera this week looking to make history at the course where he played his first PGA Tour event. Woods missed the cut here as an amateur in 1992 at Rivera shooting scores of 72 and 75. Rivera is one of the few courses that has eluded Woods in terms of PGA Tour victories. There is a strong sense that California born golfer struggles with this course and low ownership numbers reflect the overall lack of interest Woods this week. Twice a runner up at Rivera, Woods went many seasons in his prime skipping this event. Now the host for The Genisis Open, Woods enters this week healthy and should always be regarded as a threat to win. Always a flair for the narrative Woods would love nothing more than to win number 83 at the course where he first played on the tour.

The Masses Can Keep Fading the GOAT

I will always preface this selection with a warning that I am the biggest Tiger homer of any DFS player out there. I have played him in my main lineup every time he's teed it up over the last two years with only three exceptions -- two coming off of wins and another when he admitted his game wasn't where he wanted it to be. He's actually been quite forthcoming in his press conferences. While it sounds like he took some time off after the Presidents Cup, he's been practicing the last two weeks and said there wasn't much rust to shake off. He did note that he's been testing out new woods, but said that he'll use his old ones if he doesn't get the new ones dialed in by Thursday. For some odd reason, everyone in the industry expects Tiger to be highly owned every week because the "casual player" will just click his name. I have a secret for you -- the "casual player" that doesn't pay attention to golf isn't going to be throwing 150 lineups into GPPs or playing anything high stakes. Woods consistently has low ownership and I laugh when people still make the argument that is obviously wrong. Anyway, he's won this event six or seven times in his career and has back-to-back top 25 finishes here the last two years when he had no form to speak of coming into the event. This time around, he won the Zozo Championship, he finished fourth in the Hero World Challenge, and he was the only golfer at the Presidents Cup that didn't lose a match. He's arguably the best in the world with his long irons and has an incredible short game.

Fifteen minutes to roster lock and no major news to report

There is no major news to report ahead of the final regular event of the season. The news this week surrounds the health of Tiger Woods. After pulling out of last week's event, Woods went on record as saying he felt way better this week. It's worth noting that Woods has two wins in his career at Medinah. With no tee time draws or cut to worry about this week weather should not be a factor in terms of picking golfers. There is a chance of rain on the weekend, but overall the weather for golf looks pretty decent. Good luck this week. ResultsDB will be up and running within 15 minutes of roster lock. Make sure to check out how your lineups stack up against the field.

Tiger Woods appears ready to play this week

After his play and subsequent withdrawal from last week’s Northern Trust, there was a strong doubt that Tiger Woods would play again this year. Tiger played nine holes this morning in the Pro-Am and appears on track to play in The BMW Championship. Tiger will have a press conference after the round, so we should know more about the state of his game later today. The big if’s surrounding Tiger’s game has more to do with health than skill, so if he can play this week there is a chance that the defending Tour Champion from last year can make a return to East Lake. Currently ranked in the 38th position in this year's race, Tiger will need a good week to advance in the playoffs. Tiger has the track record at this course and knowing that he has to hit less than driver seems to be a perfect fit for his game at the moment. With both a discount in price and low projected ownership, Tiger if healthy could be a great GPP option for the week.

Back stiffness limits Tiger Woods ahead of The Northern Trust

Tuesday's practice round went as planned for current Master's Champion Tiger Woods. With the operations too numerous to count, there is no doubt that Woods back will always be an issue moving forward. Some days are better than others for Woods, and today was one of those not so good days. Tiger considered pulling out of the Wednesday Pro-Am with back stiffness but decided to play through nine holes before just chipping and putting on the back nine. Woods is hopeful that tomorrow he will wake up and feel better, but for now, it's worth noting that the back could be an issue. We will keep an eye on Tiger news up until lock tomorrow morning.

Presidents Cup race heats up as FedEx Cup playoffs start

In less than a month from now, Presidents Cup Captian Tiger Woods will have a few very tough choices to make in terms of his picks to make the 2019 team. As the season winds down the last three events could have a big impact on who makes the team. With his strong performance last week Webb Simpson made a big push to make the team by moving into the sixth place spot in the current standings. Captian Woods had an impromptu meeting with hopeful team members yesterday at The Northern Trust. The group took a picture at that meeting, but one staple of past National Teams was not in the picture. Jordan Spieth who will almost certainly need a pick to make this year's team was not in attendance. Not currently in the top 8 automatic spots, Captian Woods is rumored to take a spot as a playing captain this year. With plenty of points still up for grabs, you should keep an eye on Presidents Cup standings over the next three weeks.

Upside to Win Another Major

This could be the first time I’ve written up Tiger Woods since his return. I’m ready to buy in this week. Woods was posting online around a week ago with a time stamp of 1:00 to 2:00 in the morning, getting himself ready for the time change before he even crossed the pond. You can tell that he REALLY wants to win another major in 2019. He was spotted practicing at Royal Portrush last weekend, and the nature of this course makes it to where he won’t have to pound driver on every hole. That “stinger” off the tee should really come in handy on a links layout. Woods has finishes of 9th and 21st in his last two events since the missed cut at the PGA Championship, and he should be rested and ready to go for this event. His game remains solid all around, and his imagination should come in handy here.

A 🐅 and a 🐐 at the Same Time

I was off of Tiger at the PGA Championship, which was the first event that I faded him completely since he made his comeback at the Hero Challenge two Decembers ago. I didn’t like the long layoff after his win at the Masters and I didn’t like that he missed his practice rounds. I was back on him at Memorial and he didn’t disappoint. He gained over five strokes on his approaches and he finished inside the top 10 after a slow start. Let’s not forget that back in 2000, he lapped the field here at the U.S. Open and won by double digits. If you have everyone play from the same spot in the fairway, I will take Tiger against any other golfer in the world. Basically, I love him on short to medium length tracks where par is a good score. I will have plenty of exposure to Tiger this week and prefer him straight up over Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka.
