Punt defenseman worth a shot in game ripe for goals
Tim Heed logs limited minutes, but he should not need much time to produce against a Chicago Blackhawks' team which continues to give up a heavy amount of scoring chances. Heed sees power play time with Erik Karlsson still on the shelf. At just $3,200 on DraftKings, Heed makes for a nice compliment to Brent Burns or a filler in the utility spot as he should take a couple shots on goal and perhaps find the scoresheet again as the San Jose Sharks have the highest implied total on the slate once again.
Trigger-happy defenseman is riding three game point streak
While Brent Burns blows everyone out of the water night in and night out on defense, if looking for salary relief, take a look at teammate Tim Heed who has six shots on goal over his last three games. During this stretch, the offensive-minded defenseman has a goal and two assists. Given that Colorado cannot stay out of the penalty box, Heed could be in for a nice game as he will see power play time with Erik Karlsson on the bench once again. Heed is the bare-minimum on FanDuel ($3,500) and an attractive $2,800 on DraftKings which really opens things up. Look for Heed to take a couple shots on goal and perhaps find the scoresheet for the fourth consecutive game in this high-event matchup with the Avalanche.
Bottom of the barrel blue liner with increased opportunity
Erik Karlsson was suspended for two games, so he not play again tonight. Last time out, Heed found himself in the lineup, logged 17 minutes of ice time, took two shots on goal and found a power play goal. Heed costs just $2,700 on DraftKings and he is the bare-minimum on FanDuel ($3,500). Even if Heed doesn't find the score sheet, he has always had a nose for shooting the puck. The Ducks have been playing better, but the Sharks should be hungry for a win here after three consecutive home losses. Heed is a great way to save salary.
**Edit @ 2:15 PM -- Tim Heed was not at the morning skate so his status is up in the air. Some other salary saving options tonight are Mikhail Sergachev and Olli Maatta**
A cheap power-play weapon
With McDavid and Crosby/Malkin both on this somewhat small slate, finding some value on the blue-line will likely be a common theme. With that in mind, Tim Heed deserves some attention. Heed has quietly posted a very respectable ten points through 22 games this season and his lethal slapshot is a tremendous weapon from the point of the Shark's second power-play unit. With the Edmonton Oilers owning a Western Conference worst 73.14% penalty kill, his fantasy upside easily out paces his bargain asking price.
Peter DeBoer has a new weapon to utilize on the point of his top power-play
A six-game pointless streak has started to turn many DFS'ers away from Tim Heed, but that's a mistake given his current dirt-cheap asking price. Heed may be dwarfed in size by partner on the point of the top power-play unit Brent Burns, but his slapshot is just about as lethal. Seemingly locked into 20+ minutes per game, including a prominent role with the man-advantage, Heed's shot volume (37 SOG in 16 games) gives him one of the highest floors on the board in this price-range.
Best Bang For Your Buck on the Blue Line
Sticking with the value theme today, next up is the San Jose Sharks very reasonably priced defenseman Tim Heed. Now, I rarely look to pick on the Tampa Bay Lightning, but this is a short-slate, and the Lightning have not been as solid defensively as one might think. The Bolts sit in the bottom-third of the National Hockey League in SA/60, SCA/60 and GA/60, and they have not been playing disciplined hockey, taking the fifth-most minor penalties this season. Heed continues to see a ton of ice time on the Sharks top power play unit alongside Brent Burns, and I like his potential again tonight.
Rookie Defenseman Sees Opportunity on Top Power Play
Tim Heed was a monster in the AHL last season for the San Jose Barracuda. Tim tallied 56 points (14 goals, 42 assists) in 55 games and should like his chances tonight against a New Jersey Devil team playing on back-to-back nights with their backup goaltender in net. Tim Heed is not seeing too many minutes (13:10, 19:49 and 16:19), but he has been quite efficient. Last time out, he took four shots on goal and recorded a power-play assist. Across the industry, Tim is minimally priced (FanDuel - $3,700, DraftKings - $3,300, and FantasyDraft - $6,300). Heed and the Sharks should see a handful of opportunities with the man-advantage as New Jersey is one of the most penalized teams in the National Hockey League. Take a chance on Tim tonight.
