Tim Hightower Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Mark Ingram (toe) didn't practice Thursday
His toe injury is clearly still bothering him. He's definitely questionable for Week 14, we'll want to see him back at practice tomorrow. If he can't go, Tim Hightower would be the Saints workhorse back. It's not a great matchup though, the Buccaneers have allowed the second-fewest FanDuel points to running backs over the past four weeks.
Mark Ingram WILL play Sunday
Ingram (toe) wasn't sure if he'd be able to play this week due to pain from his injury but Adam Schefter is reporting that he'll suit up against the Lions. He'll be in a timeshare with Tim Hightower again this week. Although he out-performed Hightower last game, Ingram may not see a huge boost in touches due to his injury. It's a great matchup with a terrible defense and a high total, but Ingram is a risky bet given the circumstances.
Mark Ingram returns to practice Friday
Ingram missed practice Wednesday and Thursday due to soreness in his toe. Although he said he felt good today, he was unsure whether he can play Sunday or not. It's a great matchup if he can go; Detroit ranks 28th in rush DVOA, the game has a 53.5-point total, and the Saints are favored by six. He was excellent last week, picking up 167 yards and a touchdown. Surprisingly, Tim Hightower out-touched Ingram by a hair 17-16, but after his big day, Ingram should lead the duo in touches this week. Hightower would be a solid play if Ingram ends up being ruled out.
Mark Ingram doesn't practice Thursday
Ingram (toe) missed practice yesterday as well. If he doesn't get back to the field tomorrow, he most likely won't be able to play on Sunday. If he sits, Tim Hightower would be the Saints lead back against a very poor Detroit defense that ranks 28th in rush DVOA. The Saints are favored by six points, so game flow should be on his side. Even in a timeshare, he's managed to exceed 100 yards in back-to-back weeks. He would be a very solid, and probably chalky, running back play if Ingram is out.
Mark Ingram (concussion) questionable for Sunday
Although Ingram hasn't been cleared to play yet, he probably will since he was able to practice all week. New Orleans will use him in a two-man committee along with Tim Hightower. With the Saints set as 7-point favorites, game flow favors their running game, but the time share and opponent limits the upside of both backs. Los Angeles' front seven has been pretty great this season. As a team, they rank 7th in rush DVOA, and their defensive line ranks 1st in adjusted line yards per carry (3.11), according to Football Outsiders. If Ingram ends up sitting, Hightower would be in play, but if he plays it's probably best to avoid New Orleans' backfield entirely.
Mark Ingram (concussion) expects to play Sunday
Ingram exited early last Thursday night after suffering a concussion. He's in the protocol now, but told reporters he isn't experiencing any symptoms and fully expects to play on Sunday. He practiced today, which is a good sign, but he'll still need to be cleared by an independent doctor. New Orleans plays the Rams on Sunday and they're favored by seven points. That sets up a nice game script for Ingram, who had 75 total yards on ten touches before he left in Week 11. He's splitting duties with Tim Hightower though, which cuts into his fantasy value. They're probably going to be close to a 50/50 touch share. If Ingram ends up sitting, Hightower would be a strong option. If he plays, it may be best to avoid the Saints backfield entirely.
Mark Ingram and Tim Hightower expected to split work Sunday
Hightower rushed for 102 yards against the Seahawks last week, earning him a larger role in the offense. Jason La Canfora is reporting that Ingram could keep the feature role if he plays well, but the Saints are more than happy to put Hightower on the field. It's an incredible matchup as the 49ers have allowed a 100-yard rusher for six straight games. It'll be hard to predict how this will play out exactly, but Ingram will start, and is still expected to see the majority of the work. Ingram will certainly be motivated, and he has a weak opponent. It's very possible he gets a hot hand early and the Saints keep him in.
C.J. Spiller to be a healthy scratch Week 16
After playing on 26 snaps last week (season high) C.J. Spiller will be inactive for Week 16 when the Saints host the Jaguars. Tim Hightower should see plenty of snaps in a game that could be a shootout, Hightower will be backed up by Travaris Cadet and Marcus Murphy. Jacksonville had been a formidable defense against RB's early on in the season, but come into Week 16 ranked 26th in DvP rankings. After receiving 29 touches in Week 14, Hightower touched the ball 16 times last week with 3 of those touches coming on receptions. With Spiller out, Hightower may have another chance today to catch a few passes.
Tim Hightower is a solid value play Sunday
With Mark Ingram out for the year with a shoulder injury, we didn’t really know what to expect last week from the New Orleans Saints backfield vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It appears that Tim Hightower has slid right into Ingram's spot and passed up CJ Spiller as the feature back for the Saints. Hightower sits at only $3,900 on DraftKings and to find a feature back at that price is extreme value no matter the matchup. The Saints get a Lions defense that is average against the run, but regardless Hightower should be plugged into your lineups if you are looking to pay up for some studs this weekend. He has a high floor for his price and has some decent upside as well.
Tim Hightower plays 58 snaps to Spiller's 15 on Sunday
Per Greg Auman, Tim Hightower dominated the snaps in the Saints backfield, totaling 58 (out of 85) while C.J. Spiller saw just 15. The Saints never trailed in this game and were therefore able to rely more on their running game sans Mark Ingram, with Hightower finishing with a monster touch total (29). Spiller finished with just six touches, and it's now very evident that the Saints do not have any interest in giving him an expanded role. Expect Hightower to see another heavy workload against the Lions in Week 15, a game the Saints should also control from start to finish. New Orleans has been very good at home in primetime over the last few seasons. Hightower will remain an elite value target, and his price may not spike to a level that makes him a viable cash game fade.
