Timo Meier Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
This third-year winger has been fantastic this season.
In his third season in the NHL, Timo Meier has taken a huge step forward. He has put up career-best offensive numbers across the board with 30 goals, 36 assists and 66 points besting his previous highs of 21, 15 and 36. He's spent most of the season playing on the San Jose Sharks top line with Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski and with the trio healthy and back together again, I expect this line to dominate the Edmonton Oilers tonight. The Sharks have been solid from a possession standpoint over the last month as their 55.24 CF% ranks 6th in the NHL. However, their goaltender Martin Jones has been terrible and that is the storyline as the Sharks head to the playoffs.
This winger has an elite special teams matchup
Since February 1st, the San Jose Sharks PP has converted at a 27.9 percent clip — tied for the second best over that time. Their opponents — the Minnesota Wild — have a league-worst PK over that time with an abysmal 69 percent success rate. This is noteworthy as Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture and Timo Meier play together at even strength and Pavelski and Couture are both on the top power play unit which gives the two-man mini-stack some intrigue.
The "second" line on San Jose is in a great spot.
Since January 1st, the San Jose Sharks have a 62.81 CF/60 (5th) and a 54.86 CF% (4th) which are both elite. The Sharks are playing amazing right now and as they head to Florida tonight, they are in a great spot. Roberto Luongo has struggled immensely this season with a 3.23 goals against average and a .894 save percentage, and it's not like James Reimer has been much better if he starts. Logan Couture is centering Kevin Labanc and Timo Meier on the second line, and with Labanc and Couture playing on the same power play unit they make for an interesting mini-stack if you don't want to go all-in on this full-line stack.
This wingers shot volume gives him a high-floor.
Timo Meier is firing off 3.33 shots per game and scoring at a 13.5 percent clip which is probably unsustainable, but as long as he's shooting a bunch and scoring goals, we're going to roster him. He's playing on the top line with Logan Couture and 28-year-old rookie Lukas Radil. The San Jose Sharks have been a dominant possession team this season, sitting second with a 55.10 CF% as they take on a Kings team that is pretty average with a 48.68 CF% which sits 22nd. The downside with this line is that Couture is on PP1, Meier PP2 and Radil is not on the PP. So you want them to dominate at even strength tonight but they could be low owned which is intriguing.
The San Jose Sharks have a deceivingly good matchup against the red-hot Buffalo Sabres
Despite their 9-game winning streak, the Buffalo Sabres have a 47.01 CF% which 28th in the NHL. They've been getting very lucky to continue this winning streak and I would expect this to come crashing down as they take on a San Jose Sharks team that generates plenty of chances. Timo Meier has been fantastic for the San Jose Sharks this season with 13 goals and 22 points in 23 games. He's playing alongside Logan Couture and Tomas Hertl on what has been the more successful of the top two lines, although it's likely deemed the "second line" due to Joe Pavelski and Evander Kane being on the other one. Hertl and Couture play on the top power play unit so a mini-stack with the two of them is viable, though I still recommend going with the full-line stack as Timo Meier has been incredible this season.
The "second" line on the San Jose Sharks has been dominant.
Timo Meier has been playing on the "second" line on the San Jose Sharks, but they've been playing like the top line. Meier has 11 goals and 16 points in 14 games and while he sits on the second power play unit, there is plenty of upside tonight. His linemates at this point are a bit up in the air as Tomas Hertl missed practice (Meier had been playing with Hertl and Logan Couture). The Sharks are among the best possession teams in the NHL with a 58.64 CF% which is the second-best and a 71.24 CF/60 which is also second-best. They have a fantastic advantage tonight over the Minnesota Wild who have just a 47.90 CF% which is 22nd in the NHL and a 59.04 CA/60 which is 23rd.
Meier to continue to flourish on top line
If you want to go for the hot hand then Timo Meier just may be your guy. The addition of Erik Karlsson and the return of Joe Thornton have given the Sharks a lot of leeway. So much so that they look like they have abandoned the one-line power play attack and have gone to a more practical two line approach. This allows Meier some flexibility as he has notched two power play goals over the last six games. This is important because their opponent in the Philadelphia Flyers have given up a whopping eight goals in the last 21 attempts at killing off a penalty. Sure his linemates in Joe Pavelski and Joe Thornton are the more recognizable names but Meier is at the top of the heap with nine goals where the Sharks scoring is concerned.
Winger Looks to Extend Goal Streak to Six Games
When you think of the San Jose Sharks, you know about Joe Thorton, Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture, Evander Kane, Erik Karlsson, and Brent Burns. So who is leading the Sharks in goals by a wide margin? Yep, it's Timo Meier. Meier has goals in five straight, tied with Connor McDavid for the longest streak this year. He has an always active green light right now, and is playing with pass-first Joe Thornton on the first line. He should be underowned again tonight on such a large slate, and could be the difference-maker in GPPs.
Top line Shark is not shy about shooting the puck
Trigger-happy Timo Meier has been elevated to the Sharks' top line with veteran playmakers Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski. Meier averaged just under 15 minutes per contest last season, yet he still managed 210 shots on goal. This sort of efficiency is hard to come by. Priced at an affordable $4,300 on DraftKings and $4,500 on FanDuel, Meier is a nice way to save money in cash games given his propensity to shoot the puck. Additionally, Meier can be used in stacks with Thornton and Pavelski or as part of the Sharks' lesser-owned second unit power play stack.
This former first-round pick is creating scoring chances in bunches
He may not look like the most exciting DFS option, but Timo Meier should be on your radar tonight if you're searching for value. The former first round pick sits just one goal away from reaching the 20-goal plateau in his first full season at the NHL level and has a fine matchup awaiting him as the Chicago Blackhawks have surrendered an NHL worst 4.23 goals against per game thus far during the month of March. Meier has a nose for the net and his 192 iSCF this season is the seventh best mark in the entire NHL this season. He's scored a pair of goals in the two prior meetings with the Blackhawks this season and remains an absolute bargain across the industry.
