TJ Jones Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Golden Tate (Suspension) Activated, Bennie Fowler and T.J. Jones Released

Tate has been activated after missing the first four games of the season due to suspension. The Giants also activated LB Josiah Tauaefa, meaning they had to release two players. They released two WR's, Bennie Fowler and T.J. Jones.

Fowler faded the past two weeks, going from 10 catches the first two weeks down to just two catches the last two weeks. Jones muffed two punts last week, which likely doomed him. He had no targets over the past two weeks, so the fantasy impact isn't huge.

Sterling Shepard (Concussion) Out Week 2

Shepard picked up the concussion during the Week 1 game but still played nearly every snap. He hasn't been able to progress through the concussion protocol this week and will miss Week 2. The Giants are already missing Golden Tate to suspension and Darius Slayton to injury. With Cody Latimer questionable (calf), Bennie Fowler and Russell Shepard will likely be the top targets for the Giants.

Marvin Jones Jr. (knee) not practicing Friday

The Lions wideout isn't going to play in Week 11 after dealing with a bone bruise all week. Coming off a 13 target performance in Week 10, Kenny Golladay projects to be a target monster again versus a Panthers secondary that was just obliterated by the Steelers pass-catchers. T.J. Jones will likely round out 2-WR sets, while RB Theo Riddick may be more heavily utilized in Jones Jr's absence, making them all potential values.

WR Marvin Jones (knee) not spotted at practice Thursday

The Lions wideout is looking closer to doubtful now for Week 11 after being considered day-to-day with a bone bruise. Coming off a 13 target performance in Week 10, Kenny Golladay projects to again be a target monster against a Panthers secondary that was just obliterated by the Steelers pass-catchers. T.J. Jones would likely round out 2-WR sets, while RB Theo Riddick may be more heavily utilized if (Marvin) Jones misses Sunday's game.

WR Bruce Ellington signs with Lions

With nearly a 30% target share left behind by Golden Tate, the Lions have decided to add some WR depth in the form of Bruce Ellington, while releasing RB Ameer Abdullah in a corresponding move. The former Texans receiver should compete with T.J. Jones for slot snaps as soon as this Sunday against the Bears and should be the frontrunner to see more time in 3-WR sets, alongside Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones, for the remainder of the season.

WR Marvin Jones (ankle) questionable for SNF

Jones practiced fully all week until being limited today. If he were to miss, fellow wideouts Kenny Golladay and Golden Tate would see nice boosts in a projected shootout against a weak Pats secondary that just got shredded by Blake Bortles. Particularly, Golladay who wouldn't have any competition for downfield targets. T.J. Jones would enter 3-WR sets in this scenario and see a majority of snaps, making him a cheap option on short slates.

Kenny Golladay questionable for Week 10, RG T.J. Lang ruled out, Ziggy Ansah doubtful

Golladay hasn't logged a snap since Week 3 but this could be the week he finally returns. If he's able to get on the field, he'll man the WR3 role but will likely be limited in some capacity and lose some plays to T.J. Jones. If Golladay is ultimately ruled out, it would set up an interesting spot for T.J. Jones as Marvin Jones will likely be stuck under Jason McCourty's shadow and Golden Tate will matchup with Briean Boddy-Calhoun in the slot, both of whom are among the top 12 cover corners by PFF grading. That would leave T.J. with Jamar Taylor, who's allowed the fifth-most yards per cover snap (1.58, per PFF) and the third-highest passer rating (123.6). If Golladay suits up, it muddles things because of his potential limitations in his first game back. Lang entered the concussion protocol earlier this week and won't be cleared in time to play. His absence would be a huge loss as he's PFF's seventh-ranked guard and fourth in pass protection. While Cleveland's pass rush hasn't been tremendous, checking in at 23rd in adjusted sack rate (per FO), Detroit's offensive line is 26th in pass-blocking efficiency this season with Lang starting seven of eight games. Quarterback Matt Stafford has been under pressure on 37.6% of his dropbacks, the ninth-most in the league, and he's taken the second-most sacks (26). Lang is also 12th in run blocking. As a unit, Detroit is dead last in adjusted line yards (2.88), so Lang's absence will make it even harder for Ameer Abdullah to find running room. Cleveland's strong point as been its run defense his season, they're currently second in adjusted yards (2.92), first in rush DVOA, and allowing the seventh-fewest PPR points to RBs.

Kenny Golladay and LT Greg Robinson limited Thursday

Golladay hasn't logged a snap since Week 3 but this could be the week he finally returns. He was on track to play Week 8 prior to suffering a mid-week setback. That leaves T.J. with Jamar Taylor, who's allowed the fifth-most yards per cover snap (1.58, per PFF) and the third-highest passer rating (123.6). If Golladay suits up, it muddles things because of his potential limitations in his first game back.

Kenny Golladay didn't practice Thursday

Golladay was on track to return last week prior to re-aggravating his hamstring injury. If he can't get back on the field by Saturday, he'll probably remain sidelined Monday night. If he can't suit up, T.J. Jones would continue to operate as the WR3. He's seen eight and nine targets over the past two weeks and managed to post his best game of the season against the daunting Steelers secondary with a 4/88/0 line. Even so, he's only picked up four red zone targets this year and doesn't carry too much upside behind Golden Tate and Marvin Jones.

Golden Tate officially active

This was expected to be the case all day but we've finally received confirmation. With Kenny Golladay still out, Tate could push for double-digit targets but the Pittsburgh pass defense hasn't shown many leaks to date. Marvin Jones' appeal has dropped and T.J. Jones will once again be relegated to WR3 duties.
