Tomas Hertl Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
This center has had an offensive coming-out-party this season
Tomas Hertl is second on the San Jose Sharks in goals (32) and second on the team in points (64), despite missing 5 games. He's expected to centre the second line with Evander Kane and Joonas Donskoi on his wings. The Sharks have been hit with injuries and a bout of the flu which has taken some of their key players out of the mix. It is uncertain which players will be in the lineup tonight so be sure to follow closely. If this line remains in-tact, they make for a great line stack against an Anaheim Ducks team that has struggled all season long.
This center is having a breakout season
Before the season, not many would have predict Tomas Hertl being second on the San Jose Sharks in goals and tied for second in points at this point in the season. Well, he is, and his current linemates are also the best he's had. He's centering the Sharks second line with Evander Kane and Gustav Nyquist and they could have a very good matchup tonight as Marc-Andre Fleury did not travel with the team which means they will take on Malcolm Subban on a back-to-back or Maxime Legace.
This red hot winger draws a great matchup on home ice
Evander Kane has five goals and two assists in his last four games. Including two goals against the Canucks on Monday where we seen San Jose put up seven goals. San Jose currently has the second highest xGF/60 in the NHL. Kane, Tomas Hertl, and Joonas Donskoi all play together on the second line. With last change, I expect this line stack to avoid the talented first line of Vancouver. On the blue line I would try to add Brent Burns to the stack. While only correlating with Hertl on the top power-play unit, Burns has been logging huge minutes with Erik Karlsson being sidelined due to injury.
Hot sniper and line-mates should convert in this matchup
Evander Kane has been white hot lately, as he has racked up four goals, three assists, and 21 shots over his past four games. Ottawa is a team we have picked on all year, and they continue to rank near the bottom in most defensive categories. The Senator’s have won their past two games and only giving up two goals in the process. However they’re playing their third game in four nights and at the tail end of road west coast road trip. Stacking Kane with line-mates Tomas Hertl and Joonas Donskoi is my preferred play in this game.
This quasi-third line has a lot of offensive potential
If the Calgary Flames treat the line of Evander Kane, Tomas Hertl and Kevin Labanc as the third line (even the second line) they could be in for a big game against the Flames lower-end players. Kane leads the team in shots despite being tied for 7th on the team in points. He is struggling to convert on his scoring opportunities even though his shooting percentage is only down a bit from his career numbers. The three are all jumbled up between the power play units, which is problematic, but utilizing the trio as a strong, low-owned even strength stack is still a great as the San Jose Sharks lead the NHL with a 60.00 CF% at 5-on-5 over the last three weeks.
This player has a premium home matchup.
Logan Couture is centering Joe Pavelski and Tomas Hertl on the San Jose Sharks top line as they host the Carolina Hurricanes. This could be a back-and-forth game as both teams are producing a lot of CF/60 and giving up a ton of CA/60. The Sharks, over the last three weeks, have the 10th highest CF/60 at 59.28 and their opposing Hurricanes have a 59.31 CA/60 which is the sixth worst mark in the NHL. This line makes for a great stack because the trio remain together on the top power play unit which gives them elite upside and correlation.
Center Looking for His Own Shot
Joe Pavelski has never been shy about shooting this puck, but his point distribution (goals to assits) this year are unlike any he's had in his career. He has 17 goals compared to just 6 assists, a strange contrast to last season where he had 22 goals and 44 assists. His goals are a little inflated thanks to an unsustainable 21% shooting percentage, but the assists are under expectation, so I expect it to all even out from a fantasy perspective. While the Sharks are known to mix up their lines on the power play, he benefits from having the same linemates (Hertl and Couture) at even strength and with the man advantage. They make for a great stack this evening at home.
The San Jose Sharks have a deceivingly good matchup against the red-hot Buffalo Sabres
Despite their 9-game winning streak, the Buffalo Sabres have a 47.01 CF% which 28th in the NHL. They've been getting very lucky to continue this winning streak and I would expect this to come crashing down as they take on a San Jose Sharks team that generates plenty of chances. Timo Meier has been fantastic for the San Jose Sharks this season with 13 goals and 22 points in 23 games. He's playing alongside Logan Couture and Tomas Hertl on what has been the more successful of the top two lines, although it's likely deemed the "second line" due to Joe Pavelski and Evander Kane being on the other one. Hertl and Couture play on the top power play unit so a mini-stack with the two of them is viable, though I still recommend going with the full-line stack as Timo Meier has been incredible this season.
The Sharks second line has some dominant possession players on it.
The second line for the San Jose Sharks has some dominant possession players. Kevin Labanc has an elite 80.29 CF/60, Tomas Hertl brings an impressive 76.56 CF/60 to the table and even though he's worst on the line, Logan Couture still has an impressive 70.45 CF/60. These skaters are part of the reason why the Sharks are third in the NHL with a 57.83 CF% and one of the most dominant possession teams in the league. San Jose is hosting Columbus and they'll likely be taking on Sergei Bobrovsky — a matchup one would normally look to avoid but Bobrovsky has struggled this season with an abysmal 3.58 GAA and .882 SV%.
Technically the second line, this San Jose trio has sneaky GPP upside tonight.
Although they are technically looked at as the second line in San Jose, Tomas Hertl, Logan Couture and Kevin Labanc have a ton of upside. Hertl and Couture are playing on the top power play unit with the likes of Joe Pavelski, Brent Burns and Erik Karlsson. Kevin Labanc is away from his even strength linemates as he sets up shop on the Sharks second power play unit. Because of the power play correlation, Couture and Hertl make for a great two-man mini-stack paired with one of the stud defence. On the road against the Los Angeles Kings and Jonathan Quick is ideal, but we can hope that this line avoids Anze Kopitar which will give them some room to produce offensively.
