Trey Mullinax Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
As Phil Would say, this Kid Hits "Bombs"
Mullinax is one of the longest drivers of the ball on tour, which could be a premium this week. This is a long Par 71 and it’s expected to play a lot softer than it did a year ago. There has been rain leading up to the tournament and we could get more of it on Friday and Saturday. Longer hitters will have a huge advantage, especially ones that carry the ball a long way (Mullinax is in the top ten on tour in carry distance this season). He’s been in solid form over the last few months and he’s gained 14 strokes on his approaches in his last two tournaments.
Trey Mullinax looks to continue improved play
Former University of Alabama standout Trey Mullinax enters this week with a bit of momentum. After missing the first three cuts of the fall season, Mullinax enters this week having made 8 out of his last nine cuts including three top 25 or better finishes. Mullinax has always been a great ball striker, and his game should travel well to Corales Golf Club. The only weak spots in Mullinax's game in terms of strokes gained occurs when he gets close to the green. Mullinax is a bomber who excels at gaining shots tee to green. If a few more putts drop this week, then Mullinax should be in a great spot to improve on his previous top 25 or better finishes at this event.
Big Advantage Off the Tee
Mullinax is my pick to win this week. He’s an elite ball striker that has posted a number of high finishes this season in much tougher fields. He has quietly made eight of his last nine cuts on tour, gaining strokes tee to green in every tournament but one. This course is an easy Par 72 where the winning score will likely be in the 20-under par range. Mullinax is ranked fourth in the field in strokes gained off the tee and fourth in bogey avoidance. His distance off the tee will be a premium this week and if he can avoid the bogeys, he’ll be right there on Sunday. He has played this event two times, posting finishes of T22 and T11.
Trey Mullinax is starting to trend in the right direction
Trey Mullinax is a player who has not quite lived up to expectations. This very talented golfer has two full seasons under his belt on The PGA Tour and is hopeful that his early season success can carry him to his best season yet. Having not finished inside the top 100 in the year-end FedEx Cup standings Mullinax has the skills needed to play well and make a bigger impact on tour. After missing the first two starts of the year during the wraparound season, Mullinax has rattled off six straight made cuts including 3 top 25 or better finishes in his last 3 starts. A deeper dive into stats shows that Mullinax is gaining strokes off the tee and with his irons during this period of improved play. Making his second start at The Honda Classic, an improved and confident Mullinax is the type of value play that could pay dividends this week.
Trey Mullinax, Steve Stricker and Kenny Perry have all withdrawn from The Genesis Open
Just a few short hours after DFS prices for this week's Genesis Open were set a few early week withdrawals were announced. Fresh off a top 25 finish at Pebble Beach, the red hot Trey Mullinax has decided to take a pass on playing at Rivera. Steve Stricker will opt to play The Champions Tour this week as he is in the field at The Chubb Classic. Kenny Perry rounds out the early week field movement as he also decided to skip this week's event. Mullinax had played well enough of late to be considered as a tournament option this week, and as of now, there is no injury news associated with his absence.
