Tuukka Rask Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Turn to Tuukka?
The ownership will be heavily skewed to Kari Lehtonen as he faces the lowly Canucks, but Rask is an interesting pivot. He will come in cheaper and should face much more in the way of shot volume than Lehtonen, who has been in poor form lately. The Wild enter this game with the second worst expected goal rate at 5v5 on the slate (21st) while the Bruins maintain an elite rate of expected goals allowed (fourth lowest). For all their injuries, Boston has remained a strong defensive team. In the last month, the Bruins have bottom five per-hour rates in all of shot attempts, scoring chances, and high-danger shot attempts allowed at 5v5. Playing on the road is not ideal, but at least Minnesota played last night while Boston is rested. It looks like Torey Krug and Patrice Bergeron have a shot to play tonight, which would be huge for Rask. If paying top dollar for Kari Lehtonen is not your cup of tea, Rask is a nice pivot in what should be a lower scoring game compared to the others on this slate.
This is one of the biggest Vegas favourites of the year
The Boston Bruins are currently -300 favourites at home against the Buffalo Sabres, which is crazy. While this likely means Tuukka Rask will be heavily owned, he also makes for a great play because he is a virtual lock to win. Of course, no goalie is a lock but the Bruins are in a great position and with Buffalo's struggles to score, a shutout is not out of the question. Rask has an elite 2.05 goals against average and a .925 save percentage on the season and there is no reason to think that he cannot improve on those totals tonight. While the shots against may be low, he should be able to shut the Sabres down.
Top Goalie Tonight
You can certainly make an argument for Cam Talbot in cash games this evening, but the Boston Bruins are a much better defensive team than the Edmonton Oilers, and Tuukka Rask has been the best goalie in hockey since the beginning of December. Not to mention, the New Jersey Devils are not much of an offensive threat playing on a road back-to-back, without their best playing in Taylor Hall. Rask has posted incredible numbers of late, and I think we see another strong performance from him tonight at the TD Garden. Rask is a lock for the win tonight, and the shutout is in play as well. Before I go, I should add that the only place I would consider rostering Talbot over Rask is on FanDuel, where Talbot is substantially cheaper.
Top Goalie Tonight In All Formats
It is an easy choice in goal tonight with Tuukka Rask leading the way in all formats. The Boston Bruins are the only big favorite tonight, and Rask has been sensational in goal of late. The Montreal Canadiens are not only struggling to win hockey games these days (dropping seven of their last nine games), they are also having troubling putting the puck in the net, ranking 29th overall in the National Hockey League in goals per game. It is a no-brainer in net tonight, simply lock and load Rask and move on.
GPP Pivot Goalie
If you're looking to differentiate your lineup from the masses that will likely be rostering Dubnyk tonight, Rask makes for a nice pivot in tournaments. Entering tonight's game with a 9-0-1 record which includes a sensational .953 SV% over his last 10 games, Rask draws a juicy matchup against a Florida Panthers team that ranks dead last in scoring on the road this season. Further helping Rask's outlook tonight is the fact that he has dominated Florida to the tune of a 20-3-1 record with a stellar .950 SV% which includes four career shutouts against the Panthers. In a game Boston should dominate from start to finish, look for Rask to easily turn aside plenty of low quality shots to easily pay off his steep price tag tonight.
Top Goalie Tonight
Despite the huge slate, there is not really one goalie that stands out as a must play this evening. You could certainly make an argument for several goaltenders, but I plan on going with Tuukka Rask. The Boston Bruins netminder has been lights out recently (1.39 GAA and a .950 SV% in December), and I am going to roll with the hot hand in my cash game lineups. The Ottawa Senators have struggled to score goals all season long (27th in goals per game, and 28th in goals per game on the road), and I do not see them breaking out tonight at the TD Garden. Look for Rask to lock up the win, while allowing two or less goals.
Top Goalie Tonight?
The goalie situation is quite ugly tonight to be honest and I dont really trust any goalie 100% in cash games. With that being said, I am likely going to roll with Tuukka Rask. The Boston Bruins netminder has been lights out recently (0.85 GAA, .967 SV% in December), and the Detroit Red Wings are far from an offensive juggernaut (28th overall in the National Hockey League in goal per game). Look for Rask to come away with the all-important win tonight, while allowing two goals or less.
Tuukka Time?
Goalie is an absolute trainwreck today and using Rask, who has been benched for -- hold on, I am verifying my notes here -- Anton Khudobin? Yes, Anton Khudobin has supplanted Rask as the starting goalie for Boston. Anywho, Rask is back in the cage tonight, on home ice, and facing an underachieving Oilers squad that is weary from heavy travel of late (four games in six nights in the Eastern timezone). Boston maintains some decent defensive metrics -- they are slightly above average in limiting scoring chances and high-danger shot attempts -- so this is not necessarily a spot for Edmonton to blow up. The upside is a fair amount of shot volume of lower danger variety and a win on home ice. There are no perfect answers today, but Rask might be the most right.
All Things Considered This Is Your Top Goaltender
The Boston Bruins are the biggest favorite on the board tonight as they host an overrated Vegas Golden Knights squad. The Golden Knights started off the year on fire, but they have since cooled off, and I expect them to lose their third consecutive game tonight at the TD Garden. Tuukka Rask has not been at his best this season, but I expect him to turn things around, starting tonight with this favorable matchup on home ice. You could certainly make an argument for Andrei Vasilevskiy, Jake Allen or Braden Holtby in goal tonight, but Rask has just as much upside at a discounted price.
Watch out for landmines
Goaltenders leave a lot to be desired tonight, even Tuukka Rask as the Boston Bruin defense is not what it used to be. Additionally, the Bruins are on the tail-end of a back-to-back against the upstart Vegas Golden Knights. A reason for risking Rask though is that he is the most proven of the backstops slated to start this strange Sunday night slate. The Bruins will have to contain James Neal who has scored at least a goal in all four contests this season. If they do, Rask could be in for a nice game as he should see close to 30 shots. There is no denying Rask has been awful to begin the season, but he is still a capable net minder and his price is worthwhile across the industry.
