Tyler Saladino Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Keston Hiura (quad) scratched Monday; Tyler Saladino replaces

Hiura has been scratched from the Milwaukee Brewers original confirmed lineup and will not start in Monday’s matchup against the Cincinnati Reds due to left quad tightness. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Tyler Saladino, who will now play second base and slot into the eighth spot in the order, which bumps Jesus Aguilar and Orlando Arcia up to fifth and seventh, respectively. However, the remainder of the Brewers lineup will stay intact offensively as they face off against right-hander Sonny Gray at home this evening.

Brewers lineup has value and upside vs. Agrazal

Brewers bats are priced down more than usual this afternoon, likely due to being in pitcher-friendly PNC Park. However, they get a nice matchup versus Dario Agrazal and have a nice 5.52 implied total. Agrazal has thrown 10 innings in the Bigs over 2 starts thus far, and has a 2.70 ER with a 5.17 xFIP, 5.39 SIERA, 7% SwStr and 7% K-BB. In 55 innings at the AAA level, Agrazal pitched to a 4.25 ERA and 4.40 xFIP with a 14.8% K-BB. Projection systems have Agrazal as anywhere from a 4.50 - 5.50 ERA starter in the majors going forward. With the exception of Christian Yelich at $5.8k, all Brewers bats are $4.9k or less on Draftkings in this matchup. Christian Yelich (.436 xwOBA vs. RHP this year), Keston Hiura (.384), Yasmani Grandal (.353), Mike Moustakas (.343), Lorenzo Cain (.317) are all in play this afternoon. One of either Jesus Aguilar (.320) or Eric Thames (.319) will start at first base, Aguilar would be more intriguing given his price is much more affordable ($3.1k) compared to Thames ($4.9k). Cain projects to bat leadoff at just $4.1k, Yasmani Grandal projects to bat 3rd at just $4.3k, and Hiura projects to bat 5th at just $4k. Tyler Saladino has a pitiful .153 xwOBA vs. RHP this year in 21 PA but can also be considered as his price is just $3.1k.

Nice Punt Shortstop

Tyler Saladino has been excellent against right-handed pitching this season, and he's pretty cheap across the industry tonight. If you're looking to pay up for some big bats, taking the value at shortstop doesn't sound like a bad idea. He has a .209 ISO with a .375 wOBA and a .456 CXwOBA against right-handed pitching this season. On top of that he has a 50% hard-hit rate and 42.9% of his hits have been over 95mph off the bat.

Hellickson has pitched well against righties this season but has a 1.4% swinging strike rate on his fastball which he uses 36% of the time. His changeup has been his best pitch against righties, which worries me for Saladino, but he still profiles great against his fastball and knuckle curve this season.

Great In A Small Sample Size

It was a small sample size, but Tyler Saladino was crushing the ball before going to the DL earlier this season, as he had a .326 ISO with a .476 CXwOBA against right-handed pitching in 46 PAs. While Straily's wOBA is lower to right-handed hitters, he still has a .204 ISO with a very low 16.7% strikeout rate. He's also giving up 45.2% hard hits to righties this season. It's a low owned value option on an 11-game slate, and I don't expect a lot of people to be on him.

Tim Anderson scratched Wednesday; Tyler Saladino will replace him in the field and in the batting order

Saladino replaces Anderson straight up. No reason for the scratch has been provided at this point, but it doesn't change the outlook for Carlos Carrasco or for the White Sox offense as a whole. Carrasco is far and away the top arm on the main slate, and the White Sox should be avoided.

Tyler Saladino scratched Sunday; Jose Abreu replaces and will bat third

Saladino has officially been scratched from the Chicago White Sox lineup for today's game against the Tampa Bay Rays due to a presumed hand or wrist injury. He'll be replaced in the said lineup by Jose Abreu, who will take over the designated hitter duties and bat third. This lineup change will bump Avisail Garcia, Matt Davidson, and Kevan Smith each down one spot in the order to fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively. However, the remainder of the White Sox previously confirmed lineup does remain unchanged.

Martin Perez owns a 5.19 xFIP and 4.0% K-BB% versus RHB

Outside of a two-start anomaly his last two times on the mound against the Detroit Tigers and New York Mets, allowing two earned runs or less in each outing, Martin Perez has mostly been unable to keep up his magic act that has continuously frustrated daily fantasy players for the last couple of years. If unaware of this madness, Perez typically has had the uncanny ability to work himself out of jams and limit the overall damage to somewhat respectable totals in most of his outings. However, he began showing cracks in this aforementioned armor lately, allowing seven or more earned runs in back-to-back starts against the Baltimore Orioles and Minnesota Twins prior to his most recent rebound performances. So much of what makes Perez "successful" is his solid pitching profile to left-handed batters, evidenced by a 22.1% strikeout rate, 56.5% groundball rate, and 24.3% hard hit rate, all of which are above-average numbers. These skills are something he will have a nearly impossible time relying on Saturday night as the Chicago White Sox have just one lefty in their lineup this evening. His previously mentioned skillset takes a drastic downturn against right-handed batters, posting just a 12.4% strikeout rate in just over 100 innings this season while surrendering hard contact 37.2% of the time, leading to a lofty .370 wOBA and 1.49 HR/9 allowed to righties. This all sets up perfectly well for this White Sox lineup, as a few of their right-handed bats possess discernible skills against southpaws, with Jose Abreu (182 wRC+, .444 wOBA, .257 ISO) clearly leading the way with a 42.1% hard hit rate. On top of Abreu, virtually any righty cracking the Chicago lineup is more than playable on this slate with Avisail Garcia (161 wRC+, .414 wOBA vs LHP) and Tim Anderson (112 wRC+, .342 wOBA vs LHP) being the other definitive players to target, while Tyler Saladino and Kevan Smith make for viable salary-savers, based on their lineup positions, to round out a White Sox stack in large-field tournaments despite their overall struggles with left-handed pitching thus far this season.

Matt Davidson scratched Sunday; Tyler Saladino replaces and will bat fifth

Davidson has officially been scratched from the Chicago White Sox lineup for today's game against the Boston Red Sox due to an unspecified reason. He'll be replaced in the lineup by Tyler Saladino, who will take over the designated hitter duties and bat fifth. Since Saladino is slotting directly into Davidson's spot in the batting order, the remainder of the White Sox previously confirmed lineup does remain unchanged.

Todd Frazier's absence gives Jordan Montgomery a boost

Jordan Montgomery pitched very well in his major league debut, but was held to just 89 pitches in 4.2 innings, while striking out seven of 21 Rays. He was rated the 14th best prospect (Fangraphs) in a deep system for the Yankees with middle to back end of the rotation potential. He doesn't really have a standout pitch, but doesn't seem to have many incredibly poor traits either. At $6K, he may be a popular SP2 choice on FanDuel against a below average offense when the White Sox come visiting. The White Sox did hit LHP well last season, but Todd Frazier is NOT in the lineup tonight. Montgomery did allow hard contact on six of 11 batted balls in his first start with one more fly ball than grounder. Inexpensive RHBs are not entirely off the table here. The White Sox lead off with two, both with barely an ISO above .120 career vs LHP, but Anderson and Saladino do have some speed. The next three (Cabrera, Abreu, and Avisail Garcia are all above average hitters with an ISO above .150 vs LHP since last year. Abreu (.222) was the only one to exceed .200 though.

James Shields faces a Detroit offense that mashed RHP last year

Matt Boyd is a fly ball pitcher with league average peripherals and hard contact issues. 17 HRs in 97 innings in 2016 was actually a significant improvement on 17 HRs in 57 innings in 2015. That said, we're looking at a cheap pitcher who misses bats at an average rate against what's expected to be a below average offense on a day when quality starting pitching is scarce. There aren't many pitchers on the slate we can look at assuredly say are much better. The White Sox are entirely RH today though, and Boyd has been hammered by RHP (.356 wOBA career). Tyler Saladino (118 wRC+) and Tim Anderson (114 wRC+) are affordable bats, who were each above average vs LHP last year, though both with regression projected BABIPs over .390. Jose Abreu (121 wRC+, .238 ISO, 39.4 Hard% and Fly Ball% against LHP last year) and Todd Frazier (112 wRC+, .278 ISO, 30.3 Hard%, 60.5 Fly Ball%) are more expensive power generators. Detroit is projected to score a slate high 4.9 runs against James Shields and the White Sox. This is an offense players should be looking to stack as both RH and LH batters have hit Shields well in recent seasons. The first six batters all had a 105 wRC+, .180 ISO and 30 Hard% or better vs RHP last season. Ian Kinsler has four career HRs against Shields, while Miguel Cabrera led the team with a 156 wRC+ and .258 ISO vs RHP last year. He also led the league with 10.6% Barrels/PA according to Statcast. He has just two HRs, but 10 extra-base hits in 63 career PAs against Shields.
