Kings are Underpriced Despite Struggles

The Los Angeles Kings are a bad hockey team, there is no denying that. But that doesn't mean there can't be value from a DFS perspective. Jeff Carter is my favorite of the bunch. He is only $3,900 on DraftKings, but is seeing about 20 minutes a game, including all the time he can handle on the power play. His linemates (Tyler Toffoli and Kyle Clifford) aren't great real-life players, but they are near minimum price and make for a dirt cheap stack. Drew Doughty is also fairly priced given his extensive workload and ability to score fantasy points through blocked shots and shots on goal.

Increased ice time has not lead to more production

Tyler Toffoli is averaging nearly two minutes more this season than he did last season, but the production (4G, 5A in 17 games) hasn't really been there. Last season, Toffoli tallied a respectable 47 points (24G, 23A) in 82 games. After his 30 goal 2015-16 season, Toffoli has never really blossomed into the player he is capable of. However, tonight's matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks is one to take a chance on the winger, especially on DraftKings where he is just $3,800. Toffoli and the Kings should like their chances against a Chicago team allowing the second-most goals per game (3.53 GA/G) in the National Hockey League.

That 70's Line is back together and we can hope they generate chances like they have in the past.

Of all lines with at least 500 even strength minutes together from 2015-2018, That 70's Line made up of Jeff Carter, Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli ranks second in the NHL with a 60.71 CF%. They are second only to Boston's top line of Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand and we all know how good that line is. Essentially, the Kings second line has been dominant when they play together — that just hasn't been very often. Well, they're together tonight and the trio stick together on the second power play unit which is encouraging because having this line stick together for the entire game gives them fantastic upside. The matchup at home is great and although Martin Jones is a solid goalie for the Sharks, there is still plenty of reason to think this line can put up some big numbers tonight.

Kings center potted two goals two weeks ago against same Arizona squad

Antti Raanta stayed hot in Vegas last night as the upstart Arizona Coyotes upended the Golden Knights 3-2. The Coyotes will have their hands full again tonight as they take on a Kings team in the thick of playoff positioning. Jeff Carter, who has missed most of the season, has found his game of late and has picked up four goals and two assists in his last five games. Jeff is skating on the team's top power play and second line with two wingers, the dirt-cheap Tobias Rieder and the always dangerous Tyler Toffoli. Last time these two teams met, Carter buried two goals as the Kings fell 4-3 in a shootout. With a number of high-upside centers priced above Jeff tonight, he could fly under the radar. Arizona has been better defensively for a good stretch now, but the short turn around time will not help matters. Jeff has multi-point upside in this matchup.

Late Night Hammer

If you are looking for some late night action, we have plenty of options tonight at the Staples Center. The Los Angeles Kings are starting to get going offensively and they should dominate a Detroit Red Wings team that that has now lost seven consecutive hockey games, surrendering a ridiculous 28 goals against in the process. In cash games, Jeff Carter leads the way and he is followed by Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown, and Tyler Toffoli, with Tanner Pearson making a great value play and Adrian Kempe a solid punt option. As far as tourneys go, you can certainly stack all three of the Kings scoring lines, however, their third line is the most appealing. This trio correlates well at both even strength and on the Kings second power play unit, and they are cheap to stack up.

Don't Sleep On This Talented Trio

Finally healthy after missing much of the earlier part of the year, Jeff Carter continues to carry the load offensively for Los Angeles. Skating alongside Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli on L.A.'s second line dubbed "That 70s Line," Carter and the Kings draw a fantastic matchup at home against a weak Vancouver team that has allowed the second most shot attempts and scoring chances among road teams over their past 25 games. Also featured on LA's top power play unit, Carter, Pearson, and Toffoli should have no problems paying off their manageable price tags in a game the Kings will be able to impose their dominance as one of the league's best puck possession teams.

Toffoli To Bounce Back in A+ Matchup?

It has not been a great recent run for Toffoli and the Kings in general, but they have an A+ matchup on tap tonight. Welcoming the defensively inept Rangers to town, Toffoli will get a great chance to get back in the scoresheet. New York has the highest expected goals allowed rate per hour at 5v5 (2.58), driven by major quality control issues in their own end. New York has struggled to limit all of shot attempts, scoring chances, and high-danger shot attempts. Toffoli, a gifted shooter that can ring up high shot totals in any given game, should have plenty of opportunity to get the puck to the net tonight. Though his line numbers have suffered in a material way without Jeff Carter, individually Toffoli has remained productive. He leads the Kings in 5v5 iCF/60, iSCF/60, and has the highest iHDCF/60 among LA regulars. Add it all up and it is a great spot to bank on a bounceback effort from Toffoli.

Toffoli Offers Nice Upside Given Price

Though the Ducks have improved their lackluster defensive metrics since their forward group became healthy, they still have some exploitable areas. For all of their defensive prowess, the Anaheim second line has struggled since reforming with Ryan Kesler returning from injury. As Anze Kopitar will likely draw the tough matchup against the Getzlaf line, Toffoli should skate against an Anaheim second line that has been underachieving. In about 45 minutes together at 5v5 (small sample disclaimer), the Kesler line has allowed over 64 shot attempts and nearly 32 scoring chances per hour. Toffoli fits the bill of a core player because he carries an impressive individual shooting rate (19.09 iCF/60).

Sneaky Second Line In Great Spot

If you're looking for an under the radar line stack tonight, look to the second line of the Kings, which features Adrian Kempe, Tyler Toffoli, and Tanner Pearson. Filling in for the injured Jeff Carter, Kempe has been a solid compliment to "That 70s Line" this season with 18 points. They draw a fantastic matchup at home against an overrated Avalanche team that can be exposed on the road. With Anze Kopitar expected to take on Nathan MacKinnon and Colorado's top line for much of this game, look for the second line to carry the load offensively for the Kings in a game that LA should have no problems imposing their will offensively.

Under The Radar Second Line

If you're looking for an under the radar line stack tonight, look to the second line of the Kings, which features Adrian Kempe, Tyler Toffoli, and Tanner Pearson. Filling in for the injured Jeff Carter, Kempe has been a solid compliment to "That 70s Line" this season with seven points in his last 10 games. A matchup against a stingy Boston team may seem risky, but they have been dealing with several key injuries throughout their lineup and will be playing on tired legs following last night's 4-2 loss in Anaheim. With Anze Kopitar expected to take on Patrice Bergeron and Boston's top line for much of this game, look for the second line to carry the load offensively for the Kings in a game that LA should have no problems imposing their will offensively.
