Barrie to 'Assist' in Tonight's Win This Evening

This will pick up right where we left off in the Rantanen write-up as Tyson Barrie makes for a decent blue line play this evening. While their lines have been switched up a bit one thing is for sure and that is that Barrie, Landeskog, Rantanen and MacKinnon will represent 80% of the team’s top power play unit. This is important because the Avalanche have scored nine power play goals in their last 10 games. Colorado knows how to draw penalties as they have drawn five more than any team in the league during the month of January. Barrie has been on seven of those nine power play goals while posting 39 points in the 46 games he has suited up for.

This line will see plenty of high danger scoring chances

The Colorado Avalanche mixed up their lines slightly as Matt Nieto replaces Landeskog on the top line alongside Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. This line should see plenty of high danger scoring chances against a Chicago team giving up the most in the league at 13.33 HDCA/60. Power-play defenseman Tyson Barrie always seems to get overlooked, but he makes a nice addition to this stack as he correlates on the top power-play unit. The high price tag on this line stack makes it challenging to stack, and is a way I look to differentiate my lineup in GPP’s.

This line will see plenty of high danger scoring chances

Without a doubt, Colorado’s top line has been one the best lines in hockey this year. Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, and Mikko Rantanen will have plenty of high quality scoring chances against an Arizona Coyote’s team giving up 12.27 HDCA/60. Power-play defenseman Tyson Barrie always seems to get overlooked, but he makes a nice addition to this stack as he correlates on the top power-play unit. The high price tag on this line stack makes it challenging to stack, and is a way I look to differentiate my lineup in GPP’s. Look for this line to bounce back after last nights loss.

This defenseman put up over a point per game over the last month

Since March 1st, Tyson Barrie has been one of the highest scoring defensemen in the NHL. He has put up 6 goals and 16 points in just 15 games, putting up over a point per game in the month. The Avs are in Anaheim tonight in a pretty difficult matchup after just losing their starting goaltender Semyon Varlamov. Barrie has also averaged three shots per game over this stretch and nine of his 16 points have come with the man advantage. This is not a huge surprise given that he plays with other elite talents like Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog on the top power play unit. It is a difficult matchup tonight but with how well he has played, he may be worth paying up for at a slightly reduced ownership even on a short slate.

Multi-Point Potential on the Blue Line

The Vancouver Canucks are not only a below average defensive team, they also sit in the top-third of the National Hockey League in both minor penalties and penalty minutes per game, which is not good when you own the leagues 25th ranked penalty kill. Of course, this is great news for Colorado Avalanche power play quarterback Tyson Barrie. The Avs offensive defenseman has very quietly been on a heater recently, registering nine points in his last 12 contests, while averaging almost 23 minutes of ice time per game, and he is in a prime spot to produce this evening. The last time the Colorado Avalanche faced the Canucks, Barrie had a career night (registering a goal and five points in 29:44 of ice time), and he has multi-point potential again tonight at the Pepsi Center.

Defenseman drooling to undress NHL's worst penalty kill

Tyson Barrie is not going to exactly fly under the radar after a five-point night last time out against Vancouver, but with a number of powerful offenses in great matchups tonight, his ownership will not be too high. Barrie scored a goal and dished out four helpers as he was involved in every goal scored by Colorado in their 5-4 overtime triumph in Vancouver. With Erik Johnson on the shelf indefinitely, Barrie figures to be leaned upon heavily as last time out, he logged 30 minutes, easily setting a season-high. Barrie and the Avalanche may be on the road, but their top line and top power play could not ask for a better matchup against the National Hockey League's worst penalty kill in Edmonton (72.3%). The Oilers have allowed the most power play goals (51) of all teams, and their defense has suffered even more with the absence of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Tyson is an excellent tournament target whether as a solo play or in combination with the Avalanche's top line of Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen as they continue to chase a playoff spot.

This Line Loves Playing On Home Ice

One of the league's most dynamic all around forwards, Nathan MacKinnon along with linemates Landeskog and Rantanen have been fantasy gold on home ice this season; entering tonight's game with a combined 64 points in 16 games at the Pepsi Center. They should have plenty of opportunities to continue their strong start to the year tonight against a Pittsburgh team that has allowed the most scoring chances on tonight's slate. In a game that should play with a fast paced with plenty of goals exchanged between two poor defensive teams, look for this line to carry the load offensively for Colorado with the heavy ice time they receive at even strength and on the power play.

Multi-Goal Potential From the Blue Line, Flying Under the Radar

The Colorado Avalanche have been a dominant team on home ice (7-2-1 record, while scoring the second-most goals per game) this season, and they are a sneaky offense to target again tonight. The Winnipeg Jets are an average defensive team at best and they remain one of the National Hockey Leagues most penalized teams (seventh-most minor penalties), while toting the games 21st ranked penalty kill, putting Tyson Barrie is a great spot this evening. The moderately priced Barrie has multi-point upside tonight in this favorable matchup at the Pepsi Center, and I dont see him being all that popular in either cash games or GPPs.

Opportunity for a big night from this overlooked blue-liner

The Avalanche never tend to see much ownership in DFS, and Barrie has been one of the most under-utlized assets in DFS hockey this season. Signs point to him returning to action tonight for the first game in a week and those fresh legs could pay dividends. Barrie has quietly racked up two goals and 12 assists in 16 games this season and, assuming he plays, would quarterback Colorado's top power-play unit against a Nashville team that happens to be the most penalized team in the NHL (15:03 PIM/G)
