Wayne Simmonds Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
All aboard the Wayne Train
Wayne Simmonds picked up his first goal as a Nashville Predator last time out, and it could be a sign of things to come for the long time Flyer, who will take on a familiar foe in the Pittsburgh Penguins. Simmonds checks in under $4,000 on both DraftKings and FanDuel and though he is not the scorer he once was, rolling out Wayne as a one-off in tournaments seems worthwhile in this plus matchup on home ice. Nashville is playing solid hockey at the moment and Wayne's goal last time out should give him confidence tonight against a Penguins' team that is average at best away from home.
Veteran winger takes on team that drafted him
It is a situation to monitor, but last time out Wayne Simmonds skated on the Predators' top line alongside Ryan Johansen and Filip Forsberg. Though Wayne did not find the scoresheet, something he has really struggled to do this season, the Los Angeles Kings are one of the more opportunistic matchups in the National Hockey League. Simmonds saw a bulk of the work on the Predators' top power play unit which has struggled all season long, but they draw the Kings whose 75.6% penalty kill rate trails only the Blackhawks and Oilers for a league-worst. Simmonds is reasonable across the industry and makes for a worthwhile, late hammer tournament target against the team that drafted him in 2007.
Flyers look for a spark after disastrous start to season
The Wayne Train logged a season-high of ice time last time out (20:26), and while it was likely as a result of the blow out, Wayne is set to skate with Sean Couturier and Jakub Voracek, two players who have been productive even with Philadelphia's struggles. Wayne had gotten off to a hot start to the season with five goals in six games, but he's had just five goals since then. Accordingly, his price is to a level where it's quite attractive for tournaments given his jump to the team's top power play unit. The Flyers are desperate for a win and Detroit, a team which has struggled mightily on the road, couldn't have come at a better time. Simmonds ($4,300 on DraftKings & $4,700 on FanDuel) should be on your tournament radar given his multi-goal upside.
Simmonds Nice Mid-Priced Option in Great Draw
A nice mid-priced option today, Simmonds should thrive in a matchup against the weak bottom six of the Capitals. Washington has struggled to play good defense all season, but that is especially true when on the road. They have one of the highest overall rates of 5v5 expected goals allowed, and when on the road, no team has allowed more high-danger shot attempts per hour at 5v5. Simmonds is in good form at the moment, and his time on ice has reached 18 minutes in four straight contests (after generally seeing 15 minutes or so). He is also a member of the top power play unit for Philly, good news as Washington struggles with scoring chances and HD shot attempts while on the penalty kill. Simmonds offers solid upside given his reasonable price in this highly favorable home matchup today.
All aboard the 'Wayne Train'
Wayne Simmonds was suggested on Wednesday night, and he did not disappoint. The 'Wayne Train' ended a three game pointless streak by burying a goal and an assist as the Philadelphia Flyers upended the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 in Philadelphia. While the Buffalo Sabres are one of the worst teams in the National Hockey League, it has not been because of the play of Robin Lehner. Fortunately for Simmonds, he checks in at a nice discount from linemates Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier, making him an excellent route in all formats to gain exposure to the Flyers. Simmonds has four goals while averaging nearly three shots on goal per game in nine December games.
No signs of this train derailing
The 'Wayne Train' is heating up as he has now potted a goal in each of his last three games. Simmonds is making the most of his time on the top line and is in a prime spot to produce tonight against a Toronto team that gives up nearly 35 shots against per game on the road. Simmonds has hat trick upside and tonight comes at a fraction of the price for other forwards. In three games against the Maple Leafs last season, Simmonds gathered a total of four goals, and although the Leafs' goaltending has been hot lately, Wayne, whether as a solo play or part of a stack, could pay off big time in tournaments tonight. Take advantage of his super cheap salary and reap the rewards.
Power Play Stack Leverage
If you want to pick on the league's worst overall team, consider loading up on Philadelphia's top power play unit. Currently ranked ninth in power play percentage, Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Filppula, and Provorov should be very busy on the man advantage tonight against an Arizona penalty kill that ranks dead last in the NHL this season. They won't be cheap, and will certainly garner their fair share of ownership, but loading up on all five skaters can give you the leverage you're looking for in tournaments if they all chip in on each other's power play goals.
