Welington Castillo Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

White Sox are an intriguing contrarian stack vs. Brock Burke

Lefty Brock Burke will be making his 2nd career star this afternoon vs. the White Sox after throwing 6 scoreless innings in his debut. Per Fangraphs, Burke has a future value of 40+ and is ranked 23rd prospect in the Rangers organization. Burke did post a respectable 3.18 ERA / 3.25 xFIP over 45 innings in AA this year, but still remains largely unproven and isn’t someone to shy away from. Recently returning Yoan Moncada and Eloy Jimenez to the lineup, the White Sox lineup has some good options for this matchup vs. Burke. Jose Abreu (162 wRC+, .250 ISO vs. LHP this year), Leury Garcia (114 wRC+, .156 ISO), Yolmer Sanchez (109 wRC+, .113 ISO), Tim Anderson (107 wRC+, .110 ISO), Eloy Jimenez (99 wRC+, .220 ISO), Yoan Moncada (95 wRC+, .193 ISO) and Wellington Castillo (84 wRC+, .210 ISO) are all good options this afternoon. Leury Garcia is a nice value, leading off at just $3.9k on Draftkings. Eloy Jimenez is just $4k, while Wellington Castillo is just $3.2k at a shallow catcher position and has a career wRC+ vs. LHP of 124. The White Sox currently have a 4.75 implied total and make for a nice contrarian GPP stack given their very low projected ownership.

Utterly Atrocious

There's no denying that Welington Castillo has been utterly atrocious offensively this season but he's still shaping up as one of the better point-per-dollar cash game options at the catcher position simply due to his cheap price tag. Up until this season Castillo had made a career of hitting lefties hard with a 122 wRC+ and .193 ISO against southpaws. Even if he's only able to tap into 75% of his old self he still makes for a strong play at his price tag.

Cheap Bats Against Regressing Pitcher

A core concept when choosing 5-man stacks for GPP is the ability to fill scarce positions. The White Sox will potentially have two dirt cheap options tonight with Castillo ($2600 DK) at C and Rondon ($2100 DK) at 2B/SS. Chicago currently has a fairly high implied run total at 4.8 against Martin Perez, who had a few great outings earlier in the season, but is showing major regression since that point, especially to righties. Add in Abreu, Moncada & Garcia to complete this cheap stack that will allow you to easily pay up at pitching this slate.

White Sox lineup has value and upside in great matchup vs. Sparkman

Glenn Sparkman has a 3.77 ERA for the Royals this year over 31 innings, but everything in his profile suggests that number should be much higher. He’s got a 5.09 xFIP, 4.98 SIERA, 8.2% K-BB, 27% Hard-Soft and just a 7.6% SwStr. He’s also sporting a horrendous .371 xwOBA allowed and 92 MPH aEV. Over the past 30 days, Sparkman has a 5.78 xFIP, 6.37 SIERA, 3% K-BB, .425 xwOBA allowed and 93.1 MPH aEV. Yoan Moncada (.399 xwOBA vs. RHP this year), Jose Abreu (.372), Wellington Castillo (.362), Tim Anderson (.353), Eloy Jimenez (.313) and Yonder Alonso (.301) are all solid options this afternoon vs. Sparkman. Leury Garcia (.273) projects to leadoff and occasionally will steal a base with 7 on the year, he also has a .339 xwOBA over the past 2 weeks. Castillo, Alonso and Jimenez are all available under $3.5k on Draftkings and project to be in the top-6 of the White Sox order. The White Sox have a 4.89 implied total vs. Sparkman and the Royals this afternoon.

A 95.2 mph aEV against the pitcher allowing the hardest contact on the board

Andrew Cashner has been a ground ball machine (54.2%) with just a 10.8 LD%, but a 91.6 aEV worst on the board. He’s the only pitcher on the board allowing half of his contact (50.6%) above a 95 mph EV. Of course, despite the six strikeouts last time out, he has just a 13.6 K%. He’s allowed five HRs in five starts, two in his only home start this season. The White Sox have owned a fairly healthy 18.4 HR/FB vs RHP this season. Currently, the White Sox provide the second highest implied run line on the board outside Coors tonight (5.07). While Chicago bats are priced more optimally on FanDuel, where Jose Abreu (102 wRC+, .183 ISO vs RHP last calendar year), Yonder Alonso (100 wRC+, .191 ISO), and Welington Castillo (100 wRC+, .177 ISO) remain below $3K, Yoan Moncada (114 wRC+, .207 ISO) is very play worthy at a higher cost. He has been crushing the ball this season (95.2 mph aEV), which matches up nicely with Cashner's aEV, and batters from either side of the plate are above both a .340 wOBA and xwOBA against Cashner over the last 12 months.

Welington Castillo scratched Wednesday; Omar Narváez replaces

Castillo has been scratched from the Chicago White Sox original confirmed lineup and will not start in Wednesday’s matchup against the Cleveland Indians due to a presently unspecified reason, though a simple managerial lineup change appears to be the likeliest scenario. He’ll be replaced in the lineup by Omar Narvaez, who will handle the designated hitter duties and slot directly into Castillo’s vacated fifth spot in the order, which does bestow the catching responsibilities upon Kevan Smith defensively. However, the remainder of the White Sox lineup will stay intact offensively as they face off against right-hander Carlos Carrasco on the road this evening.

Value against a below average lefty

The White Sox are hitting the ball well (112 team wRC+ last seven days) and have a healthy 4.79 implied run line against a southpaw who gets smashed by RHBs (.386 wOBA) in Francisco Liriano. There should be some interest in reasonably priced bats in their lineup tonight. Matt Davidson (158 wRC+, .250 ISO vs LHP this season) and Tim Anderson (103 wRC+, .196 ISO) are the top bats here and most expensive with ideal lineup spots. Jose Rondon has few PAs against LHP, but bats second for less than $4K on DraftKings. Also all less than $4K on DraftKings or $2.5K on FanDuel are Welington Castillo (110 wRC+, .176 ISO), Kevan Smith (178 wRC+, .135 ISO) and Ryan LaMarre (125 wRC+, .127 ISO). Of course, Castillo and Smith are both catcher eligible bats.

Lets go right back to the stacks that treated us well Friday

I am fully game stacking the Ranger and White Sox as I did on Friday. Giolito is terrible and Jurado has some talent and a likely decent future but he is still just a solid double A pitcher at this point.. Both of these teams have terrible and likely somewhat worn out bullpens giving the hitters massive upside in what could be the shootout of the day. I like these entire lineups 1 through 8 but my favorites are Gallo, Choo, Mazara, Davidson, Abreu and Moncada. Whether stacking this game or not I seriously think you need some exposure here even on this 11 game slate.

Nicky Delmonico (117 wRC+, .174 ISO vs LHP) bats second against Matt Moore (LHBs .449 wOBA since 2017)

The Rangers at White Sox features two of the worst pitchers on the board. Both Matt Moore and Carson Fulmer reach a .400 xwOBA and 90+ mph aEV this season. The problem is offense, or lack of it in these lineups, with both teams carrying an implied run line between 4.6 and 4.9 runs. The Rangers have dropped their best hitter, Joey Gallo (115 wRC+, .324 ISO vs RHP last calendar year) to the sixth spot due to a -19 wRC+ over the last week. Nobody else in the lineup combines a 100+ wRC+ with an ISO above .200 against RHP over the last 365 days. Shin-soo Choo (107 wRC+, .194 ISO) and Robinson Chirinos (93 wRC+, .215 ISO) come closest. On the other hand, the White Sox do have some talent in the top half of the order against LHP: Tim Anerson (129 wRC+, .217 ISO), Jose Abreu (154 wRC+, .263 ISO), Matt Davidson (122 wRC+, .268 ISO) and Welington Castillo (130 wRC+, .213). Matt Moore actually has a severe reverse split (LHBs .449 wOBA), but has been bad against RHBs too (.341 wOBA), which may give Nick Delmonico (117 wRC+, .174 ISO) significant value for $3K or less.

Cole Hamels is the highest priced pitcher, but there may be some value in White Sox lineup

Cole Hamels has the highest price tag on the board ($10.8K on DK), yet the Chicago White Sox have a 4.35 implied run line that's smack in the middle of the board. Their 27 K% vs LHP this year is the highest split on the board and PlateIQ (now with conditional formatting and player ratings for premium subscribers) confirms a 26.4 K% against southpaws since last season for tonight's confirmed lineup. Hamels, however, has just a 20.9 K% over the last month and has only exceeded five Ks twice in his last seven starts. The White Sox line up entirely right-handed and such batters do have a .347 xwOBA and 39.9 Hard% against him since last season. There could be some unrecognized value in the top half of this lineup in Tim Anderson (133 wRC+, .217 ISO vs LHP last calendar year), Jose Abreu (158 wRC+, .263 ISO), Matt Davidson (122 wRC+, .268 ISO) and Welington Castillo (135 wRC+, .207 ISO). Of that group, only Abreu exceeds $3.7K on DraftKings or $3.3K on FanDuel.
