Will Butcher Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections
Power play specialist could see increased role
With Sami Vatanen out indefinitely due to a concussion, Will Butcher is a possible beneficiary. Even if he doesn't see any increased minutes, Butcher has shown promise with the man-advantage in his young career. Furthermore, Will has gathered three assists over his last two games as the Devils look to crawl out of the basement. The Devils have been much better on home ice and have the pleasure of taking on a Rangers' team which has struggled while short-handed. Butcher makes sense in all formats.
Dirt-cheap defenseman with a good chance to produce
Despite logging nearly three minutes more of ice time than he did in his rookie season when he collected 44 points in 81 games, Will Butcher has been a big disappointment for the Devils, grabbing just 10 points in 32 games. Overall, the Devils have been a disaster this season, but if there is any team that can provide a cure, it's the Ottawa Senators. The Senators are allowing a league-high 3.86 goals against per game on the back of an Eastern Conference-worst penalty kill (73.8%). As the quarterback on the Devils' top power play, Butcher could not ask for a more favorable matchup. He costs next to nothing across the industry and makes for a strong tournament play.
Power Play Specialist Looks to End Drought
Will Butcher doesn't see a ton of ice time for the Devils, but he is a staple on the number one power play unit. Butcher has been ice cold lately, partially due to the absence of Taylor Hall, as Butcher is generally providing assists with the man advantage. His drought has seen his price drop all the way to $3100 on Draftkings, compared to $4500 a week ago. Butcher makes for a high risk, high reward option and should be targeted in tournaments.
Multi-Goal Upside Once Again
The New Jersey Devils will visit the New York Islanders who are ranked last in CF/60 (46.52) in the NHL. We know the Devil’s top line of Taylor Hall, Kyle Palmeiri and Nico Hischier have been possession monsters this season, posting a CF% of 54.39 while on the ice together. This trio has multi-goal upside again in a match up they should dominate from puck drop. Will Butcher can be used for some salary relief, and correlates on the first power-play unit.
Devils defenseman could pay dividends against Dallas
It is a bit of a barren wasteland from the blue line in all honesty tonight. There are some high upside guys at the top like Kris Letang, Shayne Gostisbehere and Victor Hedman, but overall no defenseman is really screaming "play me". One route to take is to go cheap with someone like Will Butcher who sees time on New Jersey's top power play unit. Butcher had a fantastic rookie campaign, posting 44 points in 81 games as he thrived in an offensive role, making 61% of his starts in the offensive zone and posting a team best 53.23 CF%. Though his minutes are limited, Will is efficient. Butcher will have his chances against the Stars' weaker lines as well as a few cracks with the man-advantage. At $3,800 on DraftKings and $4,200 on FanDuel, Butcher should be on your tournament radar.
This rookie's fine season has flown a bit under-the-radar
After three years of impressive production at the University of Denver, Will Butcher is proving why he was so coveted as a college free agent last summer. The 23-year-old has quietly racked 42 points through 78 games this season and is averaging 16 minutes of ice-time per game. Tonight's matchup is about as good as you can hope for as the New York Rangers have been a disaster in their own end since the All-Star break and Butcher has already dished out three assists against them in their three prior meetings this season. Butcher has grabbed the reigns as the point-man on the Devil's second power-play unit, securing his role as a quality salary saver this evening.
Where there's a Will, there's a way
The Hobey Baker Award Winner in 2017 does not log the most minutes, but at an affordable price, especially in a matchup against the defensive dumpster-fire that is the New York Islanders, rolling out the New Jersey Devils' top power play defenseman is worth a shot. The Islanders have been gashed all season long, as their 3.64 goals against per game is the worst in the National Hockey League by a significant margin, even eclipsing the catastrophically bad Arizona Coyotes. Butcher has cooled down after a torrid start, though the arrival of Sami Vatanen cut into his ice time, but the Islanders are as good of an opponent as it gets. Butcher has 24 points in 40 games and makes for an interesting option in tournaments as part of a power play stack with Taylor Hall.
