Will Tye Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Jets released Will Tye

With Austin Seferian-Jenkins back and playing well, the Jets feel comfortable releasing Tye, possibly to open up a roster spot for Jalin Marshall. Seferian-Jenkins has been very efficient so far, hauling in 9-of-10 targets for 77 yards across his first two games. He'll get a dream matchup with the Browns in Week 5, whose defense just allowed tight end Tyler Kroft haul in 6-of-7 passes for 68 yards and two scores - career-highs across the board. Across four games, tight ends have averaged 7.75/71.5/1.0 lines and they've accounted for 44% of the nine passing touchdowns given up by Cleveland (third-most passing touchdowns). The Browns have also allowed the second-highest quarterback rating (115.2). The Jets currently have an implied total of 19.5 points in a pick'em game.

Will Tye a healthy scratch Sunday; Muhammad Wilkerson (shoulder) active

Tye is officially inactive for the New York Jets' matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars this afternoon despite not appearing on the injury report. His absence really clears the way for Austin Sefarian-Jenkins to really take a stranglehold on the Jets starting tight end job and should allow him to see upwards of the of the 76 percent of snaps he played in his return from suspension in Week 3. With the Jaguars being a clear funnel defense to the middle of the field, the matchup for Sefarian-Jenkins shouldn't be much of a concern and he should be expected to see his fair share of targets in this offense moving forward.

Eric Tomlinson and Jordan Leggett inactive Sunday, Muhammad Wilkerson active

Tight ends Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Will Tye are both active for the Jets Sunday. Seferian-Jenkins is returning from a two-game suspension stemming from a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. He reportedly made drastic changes with his health in the offseason, cut 20 pounds, and was very impressive at training camp. A week ago, Hunter Henry tore up the Phins for seven catches and yards on seven targets. Fellow tight end Antonio Gates got in on the fun with a touchdown.

Will Tye (illness) and DE Muhammad Wilkerson (shoulder) questionable for Week 3, Jordan Leggett (knee) doubtful, Eric Tomlinson (elbow) ruled out

Wilkerson will be a game-time decision Sunday. With all of three of their tight ends showing up on the injury report, with two unlikely to play, Austin Seferian-Jenkins should be active this weekend. Coach Todd Bowles implied he might keep the tight end inactive due to his fitness, but it doesn't look like he'll have a choice in the matter. Seferian-Jenkins is returning from a two-game suspension stemming from a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. He reportedly made drastic changes with his health in the offseason, cut 20 pounds, and was very impressive at training camp.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins eligible to return for Jets in Week 3

Seferian-Jenkins was suspended for the first two games of the season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He's expected to be activated this week and return to game action against the Dolphins. There was a lot of hype surrounding the tight end in training camp after he lost some weight and got in great shape. He didn't have a huge preseason, posting a combined 4/55/1 line after appearing in all four games, but he could come into a solid role on this offense. They haven't gotten much production from the position or their receivers this season outside of Jermaine Kearse. Will Tye is leading their tight ends with four catches for 38 yards and he should slide into a backup role. It's not a great offense to target in general, but Miami let Hunter Henry get loose for seven receptions and 80 yards while Antonio Gates added two catches, 11 yards, and a score. New York opened up as 6.5-point home dogs with an implied total of 17.75 points against Miami.

Jerell Adams inactive, Larry Donnell active for Giants

Adams is a surprise inactive but he isn't much of a factor in the Giants' offense; he's topped 20 yards twice this season. Donnell received one target after Week 7. Will Tye will be the tight end to roster on the Giants' side but he has a low floor. Tye, who scored once this season, exceeded 50 yards in just one game. The good news is he had at least four receptions in each of the final three weeks.

Larry Donnell inactive Sunday

He's a healthy scratch today. Will Tye will be the leading tight end for the Giants when they take on the Bears this afternoon. He's averaged 7.5 targets over the past two weeks and makes for a sneaky tournament tight end. Chicago ranks 21st in TE DVOA, and New York's primary receiver, Odell Beckham, will have his hands full with Tracy Porter. Tye is at or near the minimum across the industry, and he now projects as our third points-per-dollar tight end on DraftKings.

Larry Donnell practices (limited)

The Giants starting TE practiced for the second straight day, albeit limited, and looks as if he will be able to play this weekend when the Giants take on the Baltimore Ravens. It's a hit on the value of Will Tye, but even if Donnell sat Tye was a shaky play going against a Ravens team that is 3rd in TE DVOA. Both are easy fades this weekend.

Larry Donnell expected to clear concussion protocol, will likely practice in some capacity tomorrow

Donnell wasn't able to suit up in Week 5 due to a concussion, but he's reportedly feeling much better and is expected to clear the NFL's concussion protocol by tomorrow. It's likely that he's able to practice tomorrow, even if it's in a limited capacity. Will Tye would be an intriguing punt play at the TE spot if Donnell is inactive, but both players being healthy makes it a situation to avoid.

Will Tye to be New York's primary tight end against Packers

The Giants normally run with both he and Larry Donnell at tight end, but with Donnell out due to a concussion, it will be Tye's game in Green Bay. As mentioned earlier, there are two likely options for this matchup: a shootout, or Giants throwing a lot while coming from behind. Both defenses are pretty similar: they both do well against the run and struggle to defend passing attacks. Green Bay has the best rushing defense in the league, which will likely force Eli Manning to sling the rock all night. Anticipated game flow paired with Tye's expected snap count -- he should see at least 80%, if not more -- makes him an intriguing play this weekend. In the five games Donnell missed last season where Manning threw more than 34 times, Tye had at least five receptions and 50 yards in four of them, plus a touchdown in two. Green Bay is allowing 7.7 catches and 73.7 yards to opposing tight ends on the season. It appears as though Tye, who is very affordable across the industry, will have a nice floor Sunday night with touchdown upside.
