1/16/19 Sports Betting Matchup Breakdown: Utah Jazz at Los Angeles Clippers

Tonight’s matchup features two teams who are right in the playoff race. The Jazz currently sit at 8th in the Western Conference with a record of 24-12 (7-3 in their last 10 games), while the Clippers sit at 6th in the Western Conference with a record of 24-19 (5-5 in their last games). While the Clippers started off the year near the top of the Western Conference, they have fizzled in the second quarter of the season.

With the Clippers surprising people and being right in the thick of things in the Western Conference, they have been a great team to bet on this season going 24-19 ATS which is the fifth highest rate in the NBA. This matchup sets up great for how they have performed this season as they are 13-10 ATS on a full days rest and 13-9 at home this season. Additionally, the Clippers have been great this year as a home favorite going 11-5 ATS. Looking back to last year, we see that this trend does not continue as the Clippers were one of the best teams in the league on the road going 24-16-1 ATS, but were a below average, 18-23 ATS, at home. Overall, if this the Clippers continue the trend they have this year, it is a favorable spot for them.

The Jazz have been an entirely average team to bet on this year as the sit with a .500 record against the spread (22-22-1) this year as a whole. Looking at this matchup, it looks like a mediocre one to bet on the Jazz. On the year, the Jazz have not been great on the road going 11-13 ATS and looking back at last year the trend is similar as they were 24-23 ATS. However, the Jazz have been good with a full days rest this year going 15-11-1 ATS, but were slightly below average last year going 24-28 ATS.

Overall, this has lead to the Clippers allowing the 5th most points in the league at 114.3, while the Jazz have allowed the 3rd least at 105 per game.

The Clippers have been one of the best team in the league to bet the over on this year going 23-19-1. Additionally, the Clippers have been a fantastic team to bet the over on at home going 13-9. Looking back to last year we see this trend continue as the Clippers were 24-16-1 at home on the over. It should be noted that the Clippers are mediocre at hitting the over with one day rest going 12-11 this year and 26-25 last year. Overall, this is a great spot to bet the over on if current year tends hold true.

Overall, the Jazz have been a mediocre team to bet the over on this season going 21-23-1. This trend continues in nearly all situations as they are 11-13-1 in away games, 12-15 on a full days rest and 5-8 as an underdog. Overall, this does not set up as a good spot for the Jazz to hit the over if current trends this year hold true.
