Fantasy sports and NFTs? The future is here, fantasy lovers, and it’s at Sorare.

If you’re new to any of these concepts, don’t sweat — it’s not nearly as complicated as it sounds. If you love DFS, soccer, NFTs, crypto, making money, or all the above, Sorare is where you want to be.

We’re here to give this new fantasy twist a proper introduction so you can begin collecting cards, building lineups, and making cash today!

Let’s get started.

Sorare Bonus Offer

With Sorare “cards” are dual purpose. They maintain stand alone value as NFTs, and they help you compete in DFS-style contests. To put it plainly, you want good cards – and we can help with that. When you register through RotoGrinders you will receive a free “Limited” card after your fifth auction win. Limited cards are scarce, yours will be 1 of 1,000.

What is Sorare?

Think Top Shot, but for soccer. Think FIFA Ultimate Team, but with cash on the line.

Sorare is a fantasy sports game, specifically for soccer, based on the blockchain, that combines the concept of fantasy sports with collectible trading cards.

In this case, the trading cards are NFTs.

Sorare was developed in 2018, but with the rising popularity of NFTs, the hybrid fantasy/NFT site is going mainstream. It has the endorsement of over 155 soccer clubs from across the globe, including Real Madrid, PSG, and Bayern Munich, just to name a few. Are you an MLS fan? You’re in luck, too! They have a deal with the Major League Soccer Players Association which allows for cards of every player in the league.

By playing on Sorare, you will have the opportunity to build lineups as you compete in weekly fantasy soccer contests for real cash prizes!

Unlike TopShot, these cards have utility beyond simply being scarce pieces of digital art. The cards are players whom you use to build rosters, which in turn score fantasy points as you enter leagues to compete with other Sorare users.

Cards accrue weekly fantasy points based on the players’ real-world performances.

In sum, here are the basics:

Ok, now that we’ve introduced you to the idea, let’s look at exactly how to play, roster requirements, tournament formats, and more.

Sorare Basics

Sign up and register on Sorare, then complete their helpful tutorial to select your first batch of free players (silver cards).

You can play with these players, but the free players, which you acquire via fake money, are really there just to get you started. With these guys, you build your first roster (5 players) and compete in a Rookie League as you learn the ropes.

However, you’ll want to eventually check out the Transfer Market to strengthen your team and start competing for real prizes. See, your original silver cards, also known as “common cards,” aren’t on the blockchain. They can’t be traded and won’t take you far if have aspirations beyond the Rookie League.

Sorare’s Transfer Market

The Transfer Market is where the bidding happens. Here you can become the new owner of valuable cards, all of which are divided between four additional colors which represent differences in scarcity.

Types of cards include:

Originally there were only four types of cards — silver, red, blue, and brown. But as Sorare grew in popularity, basic laws of economics took over and cards became more expensive. In an effort to make the game more inclusive, Sorare recently released yellow cards as a way to provide users with more affordable options on the marketplace.

Here’s the scarcity of each of the four types of uncommon cards:

Since the cards are on the Ethereum blockchain, users know exactly how many cards are in circulation. Providing scarcity and transparency, the blockchain makes it easier for managers to value players/cards without having to worry about a “printing press” negatively impacting the value of your purchase later down the road. In fact, as the game continues to grow in popularity, your purchases will likely be worth more in the future.

How to Buy on Sorare

You can buy cards with a credit card or Ether, the latter of which is a popular cryptocurrency that powers the Ethereum network which just so happens to be the blockchain that Sorare runs on. If you want to purchase your cards with ETH, you will need a digital wallet. Consider opening an account at Coinbase to easily purchase ETH and deposit on Sorare for all of your roster management needs.

Roster Requirements

Now that you know where to get players, you need to learn a little more about the gameplay itself.

When you join tournaments you’ll enter lineups made of five players, each of whom can score from 0 to 100 points based on their performances in the week’s soccer matches. Your lineup will consist of 1 goalkeeper, 1 defender, 1 midfielder, 1 forward, and 1 extra player.

Similar to other fantasy formats with which you’re probably familiar, you will also designate one player to be your team’s captain. The captains earn an additional 20% on their performance.

Sorare Tournaments

Also known as SO5 Fantasy for its 5-a-side roster requirements, Sorare tournaments run twice a week, first for the midweek slate, followed by the weekend slate. Every Sorare tournament is free to enter.

There are all different types of leagues. Though the position requirements remain the same, the type of players and cards you can use will differ depending on the division and type of league you choose to join.

By playing in more advanced leagues, you will have access to prizes such as exclusive player cards that can only be acquired by winning your tournament. For example, if a manager wins the weekly Global All-Star or finishes atop the monthly All Star leaderboard, they will receive a blue (super rare) player card.

Scouting

One of the coolest parts is that your success on Sorare is truly dependent on your soccer knowledge. You’re as close to being a general manager of a sports team, with real skin in the game, as you’ve ever been before and likely ever will be. Sorare truly separates itself from other fantasy platforms in this regard.

Managers can get an edge on the market by scouting teams and researching players, especially from leagues that are often overlooked. Remember, players who are in less talented leagues, such as Major League Soccer here in the states, are just as likely to earn weekly points and rewards as those playing across the pond amongst the best teams in the world.
