2020 NFL Draft Prop Bets: Where Will Tua Go & Who Will Giants Pick?

NYG-Draft

The 2020 NFL Draft starts Thursday, April 23. With front offices working remotely and players unable to workout for prospective teams, this year’s draft is unlike anything we’ve ever seen. With time ticking down, many questions remain, including where Tua Tagovailoa will end up and what position the New York Giants will select with the No. 4 pick. We think we’ve found value on both bets at online sports betting sites.

Tua Tagovailoa 2020 NFL Draft Props

Since writing about the “”(player-popup #tua-tagovailoa)Tua Tagovailoa”:/players/tua-tagovailoa-1844363 NFL Draft props”:https://rotogrinders.com/articles/tua-tagovailoa-2020-nfl-draft-betting-odds-3332376 that we liked a couple of weeks ago, questions have arisen that put Tagovailoa’s draft stock in jeopardy. More specifically, the reports that Tua failed physicals with two NFL teams have convinced some that the injury-riddled quarterback won’t even be the second quarterback selected in the 2020 NFL Draft next week.

If you peruse NFL mock drafts across websites and social media you’ll find that some people are taking these reports far more seriously than others.

For instance, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler believes the Dolphins will choose Justin Herbert, the quarterback out of Oregon, with their fifth pick, leaving Tua to the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 6. On the other hand, in Eliot Crist’s April 9th mock draft the Dolphins trade up to select Tagovailoa with the third overall pick.

So what to believe? The truth is no one knows for sure what teams are thinking when it comes to Tua and his durability. Rumors leaking from certain front offices could simply be self-interested gamesmanship to devalue Tagovailoa’s draft stock. The current circumstances, with the novel coronavirus pandemic preventing Tagovailoa from meeting with teams in person, has further complicated matters for the former Alabama quarterback.

I personally think the news (and questions) creates value betting on Tua Tagovailoa Draft Position – Over 3.5 (-192) at FanDuel Sportsbook, as our own Dan Back pointed out last week:

Given the question marks surrounding Tagovailoa, and his inability to alleviate said concerns, the Dolphins trading up for Tagovailoa seems pretty unlikely. Further, the teams ahead of them seem pretty well set: the Redskins will almost certainly take Chase Young at No. 2, a good portion of mock drafts think the Lions will choose Young’s Ohio State teammate Jeff Okudah at No. 3, and the Giants are primed to either add some protection for QB Daniel Jones with a top offensive lineman or support on defense.

[Also bet on First Three Picks in Exact Order: 1. Joe Burrow 2. Chase Youngs 3 Jeffrey Okudah +150 at BetMGM.

There’s really no need to trade up to secure Tagovailoa, and such a move is becoming increasingly unlikely with “”(player-popup #justin-herbert)Justin Herbert”:/players/justin-herbert-1849725 gaining momentum”:https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2885805-matt-millers-scouting-notebook-dolphins-dictate-2020-nfl-draft-ripple-effects.

Whatever the Dolphins decide to do, one thing is for sure, it will have a ripple effect on the rest of the first round.

As referenced earlier, the Giants will likely draft either an offensive lineman or a defensive weapon. Again, there’s plenty of disagreement among mock draft experts.

CBS’s Bryan DeArdo has the Giants drafting linebacker Isaiah Simmons. Simmons, who was a leader on Clemson’s ferocious defense, is the No. 4 pick in Todd McShay’s most recent mock draft, but not everyone agrees.

Other mock drafts have the Giants selecting an offensive tackle, though there’s disagreement as to which lineman the Giants choose — Tristan Wirfs, Mekhi Becton, or Jedrick Wills.

I’m in the offensive line camp.

Remember, New York Giants GM Dave Gettleman took some heat for drafting Daniel Jones with the No. 6 pick a year ago. Who would have thought they would’ve had a chance a Tua if they had waited a year? Anyways, that’s neither here nor there. The point is, I expect Gettleman to do everything in his power to make the Daniel Jones pick look good in the long run. That means being the first team to take an offensive lineman off the board next Thursday.
