2022 3M Open Weather Forecast and Projections This Week

Article Image

We’re teeing off for the 3M Open in Blaine, Minnesota this week, and the weather could have an impact, especially as we move into the weekend with the potential for rain and storm delays.

That being said, as usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps to soften and slow the course, meaning it helps as much as it hurts. With wind there’s no helpful side, it’s all negative impact, and the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the timeframe with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can use then use this to your advantage making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

3M Open Weather Report & Forecast

Round 1 Weather Projection – Thursday, July 21st

Earliest tee times can expect about a 5mph wind to start, increasing to 5-10mph in the late morning. By the afternoon sustained winds will be in the 10-15mph range, with stronger wind gusts. While AM tee times are better on Thursday than afternoon times, the afternoon winds are still manageable.

Round 2 Weather Projection – Friday, July 22nd

Winds look to have a similar pattern on Friday, with lighter AM winds in the 5-10mph range and 10+ in the afternoon. A chance for a shower or storm is possible, but the coverage won’t be too high, so it’s unlikely we run in to any issues.

Round 3 Weather Projection – Saturday, July 23rd

This is the day where we are most likely to end up with rain and/or a rain delay. Scattered showers and storms are possible, especially in the afternoon. Winds are still manageable, again light in the AM and just around 10mph by the afternoon.

Round 4 Weather Projection – Sunday, July 24th

Closing things out with maybe the best weather of the tournament. It’ll be dry, with winds remaining manageable, again lighter in the AM than the afternoon, but even peak winds will top out at a very manageable 10mph.

Overall 3M Open Weather Forecast

I don’t think this is a tournament that is going to have a significant weather edge. I do expect the strongest of the winds will be Thursday afternoon, but we’re only edging out Friday afternoon by 1 or 2 mph’s, so I don’t see a big advantage to either draw.
