Week 6 kicks off with an NFC West showdown between the 49ers and Seahawks in Seattle. The Seahawks come into the game in first place in the division at 3-2 but have lost 2 games in a row after starting the season 3-0. The 49ers come in at 2-3, but the ScoresAndOdds NFL Futures page shows the team with +425 odds to win the NFC, the best of any team in the conference. The 49ers are 3.5-point favorites, and the game has a total set at 49.5 points. San Francisco ranks 2nd in the league in yards per game on offense despite their 2-3 record, while the Seahawks rank 7th in yards per game on offense. On defense, both teams have been solid, with the 49ers allowing the 10th-fewest yards per game while the Seahawks allow the 11th-fewest. This is a matchup of two good teams that should have big implications for the division winner.
On the injury front, the 49ers have returned most of their pieces on offense except for Christian McCaffrey, while the Seahawks have been healthy for most of the season other than Kenneth Walker missing 2 games with an oblique injury. Still, you’ll want to be sure to follow the RotoGrinders NFL starting lineups page as inactives hit for the latest details in case there are any surprises. Primetime Game History
The Seahawks’ last primetime game was just two weeks ago when they played the Lions in Week 4 on Monday Night Football. Going into Detroit as 4.5-point underdogs, the team still had the two most popular CPT choices in the DraftKings large-field contest in Jaxon Smith-Njigba (12.4%) and DK Metcalf (12.4%). The winning lineup featured a Seattle CPT, but it was Kenneth Walker (4.9%), with Geno Smith the only other Seahawk in the lineup in a FLEX spot.
San Francisco’s only primetime game so far this season was against the Jets on Monday Night Football in Week 1. Leading up to the game the presumption was that Christian McCaffrey would be active, and when he was announced inactive Deebo Samuel (16.9%) and Jordan Mason (15.0%) ended up as the 2nd-most and 3rd-most popular CPTs in the DraftKings large-field contest. The 49ers won 32-19, but it was Jets WR Allen Lazard and his garbage time 2nd touchdown that ended up as the winning CPT at just 1.4% ownership, while Samuel, Moody, and kicker Jake Moody appeared for San Francisco in FLEX spots.
Looking at these past Showdown contests, we again see some consistent themes. Pass catchers (including RBs) often end up in the CPT spot ahead of their QBs, with their QBs appearing in a FLEX spot. We also see lineups that contain at least one low-owned player. Often, we don’t want to avoid chalk entirely, but it can be critical to find at least one lower-owned — but still viable — option, even if it is at the CPT spot. The Lazard TD is also a reminder that one play can make a big difference, and often, a player from the losing team can end up as the winning CPT with the right score for his price.
