The Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks will meet at Madison Square Garden on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. EST on ESPN. Entering play, Philadelphia (34-17) owns the third-best record in the Eastern Conference. New York (28-26) currently holds a play-in position in the standings. In this matchup, oddsmakers are expecting a tightly-contested affair, pricing Philadelphia as 4-point road favorites on the spread.

Philadelphia 76ers

Embiid listed as questionable

Though Joel Embiid is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday’s contest, it is likely that he will be in uniform. Embiid has been listed as questionable ahead of tip-off in each of Philadelphia’s last four games, but there is little evidence of an impactful injury, judging by his recent performance.

Since January 28, Embiid is averaging 34.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, and shooting 55.8% from the field. Expect him to have another strong performance this evening against New York.

Philadelphia in elite company

Since December 9, the 76ers are 22-5 overall and have outscored their opponents by 7.6 points per 100 possessions. In that span, they are one of only three teams in the entire NBA with fewer than 11 losses.

Philadelphia’s recipe for success has been a juggernaut offense that is scoring more points than any team in the league across the last two months, coupled with a defense that ranks in the top-10 in nearly every important metric.

New York Knicks

Still no flowers in the Garden

All season, we have been writing about New York’s incomprehensible struggles in their home building, struggles which are yet to be corrected. Yesterday, the Knicks lost 134-128 to the Los Angeles Clippers in overtime, dropping their record at Madison Square Garden to 13-15 for the year.

Entering play on Sunday, New York is one of only five teams in the NBA with a losing record at home. The other four teams are the Charlotte Hornets, Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, and Houston Rockets – each of which owns one of the four worst overall records in the league.

Robinson OUT

Since Mitchell Robinson last played a full game on January 16, the Knicks are 3-7 and have been outscored by 5.1 points per 100 possessions. Prior to Robinson’s injury, New York ranked sixth out of 30 teams in rebound percentage. In his absence, they rank 20th.

Per Cleaning the Glass, the Knicks rank in the 90th percentile in offensive efficiency and the 79th percentile in defensive efficiency this season with Robinson on the floor, compared to the 56th percentile in offensive efficiency and the 21st percentile in defensive efficiency with him on the sidelines.

76ers vs. Knicks – Picks & Predictions

The New York Knicks are relying on a thin rotation in Mitchell Robinson’s absence. In yesterday’s loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, only seven players had more than 12 minutes of playing time. As a result, Julius Randle, R.J. Barrett, Jalen Brunson, and Quentin Grimes each played 38 minutes or more.

The Philadelphia 76ers are coming off of a win against the San Antonio Spurs, in which no member of the roster played more than 28 minutes. The 76ers are healthier, have a rest advantage, and are more talented than their opponent in this spot – expect them to get the job done.

PICK: 76ers -4 (-110, DraftKings)
