Pitcher Grind Down
- Cole Hamels – This will be a great game if you like to watch a pitching duel. Hamels has really been pitching very well this year for a bad squad. He has a 2.50 ERA and 1.16 WHIP to go along with a nice 8.77 K/9. He does have a matchup against a lot of power righties, but he has held them to a .205 BAA in 3 starts this year. The win will be tough to come by today, but Hamels makes a great play on sites that are not so win dependent. Rating = 8
Salaries: $9700 FD, $20700 DD, $10500 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Gio Gonzalez – Gio is a pretty sizable favorite in this matchup that also sports a 6’ total. He has not pitched as well as Hamels this year, but will be pitching behind the better offense today. This gives him a clear advantage in the win department, but he has been a bit too inconsistent for me to trust him in my cash games. Rating = 7
Salaries: $8600 FD, $15100 DD, $8800 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Philadelphia
I think Gio pitches very well here and there are too many games to play the bats here.
Washington
This game will most like end up 3-1 and both bats should be avoided.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Bud Norris – Norris has been decent for the Orioles and has, but was recently hit pretty hard against this Rays squad for 4 earned runs in 6 innings. Norris’ problem is his lack of innings as he has only gone 7 innings once in his last 6 games. This limits his potential, especially with average strike out numbers. He is an okay play on multi-pitcher sites, but I think there are better options at his price point. Rating = 5
Salaries: $7300 FD, $12850 DD, $7000 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Jeremy Hellickson – Hellickson has struggled recently as he has allowed 8 earned runs and 16 hits in his last 2 starts. This includes a start against this Baltimore squad. The matchup makes Hell Boy very tough to pay up for as I would rather drop down to some cheaper options or pay up for the elite arms. Rating = 6
Salaries: $5200 FD, $10500 DD, $7200 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Baltimore
Chris Davis – Is Crush heating up finally? He is batting .320 in the last week with 2 home runs and have had Hell Boy’s number in the past (11/29, 2 home runs).
Additional Plays: Adam Jones Nick Markakis
Tampa Bay
Matt Joyce – I like Joyce anytime he is against an average RH pitcher. He continues to hit in the 3 spot and his price is always cheap.
Additional Plays: Ben Zobrist

Pitcher Grind Down
- C.J. Wilson – Wilson has really struggled this year, but has been really bad in the second half of the season. Since the AS break he has given up a 5.77 ERA and has allowed batters to hit .328 off of him. This Twins team has been quietly putting up runs in bunches lately and Wilson needs to be avoided until he can get out of this funk. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6900 FD, $12300 DD, $6700 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Logan Darnell – Darnell has been crushed in his last two appearances for 11 runs combined. He is taking on a powerful offense and should be avoided. Rating = 2
Salaries: $5000 FD, $8150 DD, $5000 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
LA Angels
Mike Trout – Trout is the top elite option at the OF position today as he takes on a young lefty who allows a wOBA of .381 to RH batters. He should have a big game today.
Additional Plays: Albert Pujols Howie Kendrick Kole Calhoun
Minnesota
Brian Dozier – I am sad that I cannot write up Danny Santana because he may not play due to injury, but the guy has been great recently. Dozier is great against LH pitching and has a wOBA of .332 on the season.
Additional Plays: Trevor Plouffe Danny Santana (if playing)

Pitcher Grind Down
- Adam Wainwright – Waino’s price has dropped and for good reason. He has not been good recently at all. Waino allowed a 5.17 ERA in August and picked up where he left off in his last start by allowing 4 earned runs in 6 innings. If you want to take a chance on him go ahead, but I see Milwaukee getting to him and his struggles continuing. Rating = 5
Salaries: $9200 FD, $19250 DD, $9600 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Jimmy Nelson – Nelson has pitched decently in his rookie campaign and has a 4.14 ERA to show for it. He has struggled this year at Miller Park with a 5.00 ERA and has a tough matchup with the Cardinals whose bats have been pretty good over the last week or so. He makes a deep GPP option today. Rating = 5
*Salaries: *
Batter Grind Down
St. Louis
Matt Adams – Adams is in a great spot as the cheap 1b option of the day. Nelson has struggled against lefties and Adams has crushed righties for a wOBA of .367.
Additional Plays: Matt Carpenter
Milwaukee
Aramis Ramirez – One guy on this Brewers squad that has always had Waino’s number is Aramis. He is 22/53 with 11 extra base hits including 3 home runs.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Gerrit Cole – Cole is a solid arm that has been plagued by injuries this year. He has yet to really get into a groove this year and has a 3.86 ERA because of it. I expect him to have a great end of the season and it should start today against the Cubs. He is a heavy favorite and should have some run support today. Rating = 7
Salaries: $7900 FD, $15750 DD, $9200 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Travis Wood – Wood has not had a fantasy relevant year at all. He has close to a 5 ERA and a high 1.50 WHIP for the Cubs. He has pitched a bit better at home this year, but the Pirates should be licking their chops today as they fight for a playoff birth. Avoid him. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6300 FD, $9500 DD, $6800 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Pittsburgh
Andrew McCutchen – His price at a place like FD seems too low at the moment and he has a great matchup against Travis Wood today. We know Cutch crushes lefties and Wood has allowed a wOBA of .361 to RH batters.
Additional Plays: Jordy Mercer Josh Harrison (if playing) Starling Marte
Chicago Cubs
Luis Valbuena – Valbuena gets a mention here as he has just been extremely hot recently. In his last 19 at bats he has 8 hits and 2 bombs.
