Training for the FanDuel Ironman
FanDuel’s Offering You the Chance at Free Money

With so many great contests and promotions out there in the fantasy sports world, there’s really no reason for you to not take advantage of them. Right now FanDuel is offering two great promotions that you can qualify for. And the best part about them is that they will not cost a penny more than you are already paying for you daily leagues, as long as you are playing in leagues, you have the chance to qualify. FanDuel’s two promotional contests are the “Tournament Kings Contest” and the “Ironman Challenge.” This week, I will touch on the Ironman Challenge and then next week I will explain the Tournament Kings Contest.

The Ironman Challenge is a free contest that starts on August 30, 2011. The winner of this free tournament will receive a seat at the Daily Fantasy Baseball Championship finals which is an incredible opportunity for you to really showcase your fantasy skills and win some incredible prizes. Also the Ironman Challenge awards $1,000 total to the 2nd to 5th place finishers.
In order to qualify for this free tournament, all you have to do is enter a money league on FanDuel every day from May 24 through August 23. This may seem impossible to enter a league every single day for 3 months, but FanDuel is going to allow you to have 7 days off during this time period. So basically as long as you enter a $5 league everyday (with the exception of the 7 free days) from now until August 23 then you will qualify for this amazing tournament. And you won’t have to pay a dime to get into it!
This is definitely not a contest that you want to miss out on. Also, in addition to a free entry into the tournament, all qualifiers will receive a prize package that includes a Fanduel shirt, hat, and other goodies. So make sure to enter a league everyday and I will see you in the IRONMAN CHALLENGE on August 30.
Now onto tonight’s contests: I wanted to give you my thoughts on which players could have big nights and which players have good value for their salaries on FanDuel. I’ve entered the $1,500 MLB Hit & Run Contest and here is my team before any weather and lineup changes:
$1,500 MLB Hit & Run Lineup
| Player | Position | Opponent | Salary | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Erik Bedard | P | Orioles | $4,400 | Bedard has averaged 7 K’s per game over his last 3 and has only given up 1 run. Plus he’s at home vs the Orioles, for this price you can’t pass him up. |
| Victor Martinez | C | Twins | $3,600 | Martinez has been in a small slump lately, but going against Duensing just might be the cure. |
| Adrian Gonzalez | 1B | White Sox | $3,700 | Gavin Floyd gets to run into a buzz saw that is the Red Sox lineup. Gonzalez should have a big game. |
| Chase Utley | 2B | Nationals | $3,400 | Utley is batting .464 against Marquis in his career, numbers like that are too hard to ignore. |
| Kevin Youkilis | 3B | White Sox | $3,900 | I couldn’t decide whether to go for Youk or Beltre in this spot, but I couldn’t pass up the Gonzalez/Youk tandem. |
| Jose Reyes | SS | Pirates | $3,800 | Reyes has been crushing the last few games and there really aren’t any other good options at SS. |
| Carlos Gonzalez | LF | Dodgers | $3,800 | Cargo has only faced Ted Lilly 6 times in his career, but 3 of those 6 times he’s knocked it out of the park. |
| Andrew McCutchen | CF | Mets | $3,700 | McCutchen can do it all and even though he is facing Knuckle-baller Dickey, I think he will have a big game. |
| Jose Bautista | RF | Indians | $4,500 | Any time that you have enough money left over to take Bautista, you should do it. |
So make sure to get into tonight’s leagues on FanDuel and also make sure to at least enter one league per day now until August 23rd and if you miss a day here and there then you should still be ok to qualify for the Ironman Challenge. Next week I will explain how to qualify for the Tournament Kings Contest.
Also feel free to post your favorite fantasy picks for tonight on FanDuel and we can see who had the best picks. Just leave me a comment and we will get the conversation started!
