2023 Gusty Winds for the Arnold Palmer Invitational
We’re teeing off for the Arnold Palmer Invitational this week, and the weather will be an issue, especially on Friday.
This is a week where having a good handle on the forecast can give you an edge on sites like No House Advantage, where you can use our No House Advantage promo code to get a $100 Instant Deposit Match.
As usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps to soften and slow the course, meaning it helps as much as it hurts. With wind there’s no helpful side, it’s all negative impact, and the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the timeframe with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can use then use this to your advantage making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Arnold Palmer Invitational Weather Report & Forecast
Round 1 Weather Projection – Thursday, March 2nd
Pretty quiet early, about a 5-10mph wind in the early morning, increasing a bit to 10+ by the late AM. In the afternoon winds should top out between 10-15mph with gusts around 20. It’s a bit breezy, but very manageable.
Round 2 Weather Projection – Friday, March 3rd
Gusty winds are going to be a problem on Friday. Right now it looks like winds at sunrise should be around 10mph, picking up to 20+mph by the late morning (10 or 11am), while gusting over 30mph. I expect winds to peak around or a bit after noon, with sustained winds 20-25mph and gusts near 40mph to for most of the afternoon, gradually winding down a bit later in the day (closer to sunset).
Round 3 Weather Projection – Saturday, March 4th
Not the prettiest day, but a bit better than Friday. We’re see breezy but manageable winds early, climbing in the afternoon to 15-20mph sustained and with gusts over 25mph. Scattered showers are possible at any point in the day, though the overall coverage is likely around or even a bit less than 50%.
Round 4 Weather Projection – Sunday, March 5th
Winds looks fairly steady and somewhat light throughout the day. There’s a low chance for a shower, but we’re likely dry.
Overall Arnold Palmer Invitational Weather Forecast
As I mentioned in the intro, when it comes to finding a usable and predictable edge for PGA, wind matters a lot more than rain. In this case Friday is a clear wind day. No golfers will be able to avoid the wind entirely, because by the late morning they are already near peak, but some golfers can minimize their total wind exposure. I prefer picking morning golfers on Friday, preferably early morning golfers (literally the earlier the better). Even the earliest will run into some troublesome winds on the back 9, but I think that would be preferred to the afternoon wave which have the bulk of their round during peak winds. I’ll keep watching it and provide updates as things change. Stay tuned to @KevinRothWx for the latest.
