Goaltender

Jaroslav Halak – After a sluggish start to the season — which follows a down season overall — the New York Islanders have improved their defensive play quite a bit. Quietly they have improved their expected goals allowed per 60 minutes of 5v5 play to 2.12, just the 23rd highest rate in the league. The Colorado Avalanche, meanwhile, remain poor on offense as they enter the game with the third lowest 5v5 expected goal rate. On an individual level Halak has not been very good this year, but this is as good of a get-well matchup as there is. (At the time of this writing New York has not confirmed their goalie, but Tomas Greiss is in the same boat as Halak.)
