This evening’s Monday Night Football battle between the Miami Dolphins and the New Orleans Saints at Caesars Superdome is not the most highly-anticipated matchup of all-time, but this contest has tremendously important playoff implications for both teams. Entering play, both teams are 7-7 on the season. A victory for Miami would catapult them into a tie with the Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Chargers, and Las Vegas Raiders for the final playoff spot in the AFC. A victory for New Orleans would pull them into a tie with the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles for the final two playoff positions in the NFC. Oddsmakers are expecting a tightly-contested affair between these two teams looking to improve their postseason chances, pricing the Dolphins as a field goal favorite on the spread.

If you have not placed your bets on the side or total in these contests, it is worth noting that the value on the spread and the total has been reduced compared to its opening market price. Instead of forcing action on saturated markets, those betting on the NFL today may find more expected value by perusing player props across online sportsbooks.

Dolphins vs. Saints Player Props

Tua Tagovailoa u233.5 Passing Yards

PrizePicks: O/U 220.5 Yards

Tua Tagovailoa has eclipsed this number in two of his last four games, but it is doubtful that he makes it three of five this evening against one of the best secondary units in the NFL. Liam Eichenberg, Austin Jackson, Michael Deiter, and Jesse Davis form arguably the worst pass-blocking offensive line in the league. Even Robert Hunt at right guard is only mediocre in pass protection. Factor in that New Orleans has four elite players on the defensive line and it becomes hard to imagine Tagovailoa having many clean throws from the pocket in this one. Early in his career, Tagovailoa has consistently graded as one of the worst signal callers in the league when under pressure. This is a tough spot for him tonight. Take the under.

Ian Book o179.5 Passing Yards

PrizePicks: O/U 169.5 Yards

Bettors do not know a lot about Ian Book, who will be making his first career NFL start this evening. However, they do know a lot about the Miami secondary unit, which is exploitable all over the field. Other than Xavien Howard and Jevon Holland, there is not too much for Book to be fearful of in this matchup. The Saints also love to throw the ball to their running backs, and let them do a lot of the heavy lifting after-the-catch. The market appears to be overvaluing a Miami defense that has played one of the softest six game stretches in NFL history coming into play. Book should deliver for bettors at this line. There is even more value if including this play in a PrizePicks parlay.

Alvin Kamara o26.5 Receiving Yards

PrizePicks: O/U 21.5 Yards

Alvin Kamara was held in-check by a dominant Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defense last weekend, but should find much more room to operate in this one, both on the ground and through the air. Kamara has 25 or more receiving yards in six of the 10 games in which he has seen the field this season. In his first career NFL start, it is likely that the Saints will call a few easy completions to the running back to get Book’s confidence high early in the game. Kamara has the potential to blow past this line, similar to when he totaled 11 catches for 128 yards against the Seattle Seahawks in October.

Alvin Kamara o56.5 Rushing Yards

PrizePicks: O/U 55.5 Yards

As mentioned above, this is a great spot for Kamara to have a big night. The Dolphins are allowing 4.3 yards-per-carry on the ground this fall. If Terron Armstead returns to the field this evening, this is an even bigger boost for one of the game’s best running backs in a favorable matchup. Prior to last week, Kamara had totaled 50 or more rushing yards in seven consecutive contests. Expect a bounce-back performance from him on Monday Night Football.
