MLB Player Props Today
- Hunter Brown o16.5 outs recorded
- Bryce Elder o3.5 strikeouts
- Kris Bubic more than 5.0 strikeouts
Hunter Brown o16.5 outs recorded (-123), Caesars
In his 2023 debut, Hunter Brown lasted only 4.2 innings against the Detroit Tigers. However, he rebounded with a strong performance in his second turn through the rotation against the Minnesota Twins – recording 21 outs while allowing zero runs and striking out seven batters. Though we are still dealing with small sample sizes, there has been nothing concerning for Brown from a platoon perspective, showing no major vulnerability against right- or left-handed hitters. In 2022 with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, Brown had a 1.12 WHIP against left-handed hitters and a 1.06 WHIP against right-handed hitters, further supporting that he can handle both sides of the platoon. On Saturday, he gets a favorable matchup against the Texas Rangers, which rank near the league average in most offensive metrics against right-handed pitching so far this season. Brown has thrown 93 pitches and 97 pitches in his first two starts. Expect another long leash for him in this spot, and for him to have a great opportunity to get to the over.
Bryce Elder o3.5 strikeouts (-155), PointsBet
Dating back to last season, Bryce Elder has at least six strikeouts in seven consecutive starts. In two starts to begin 2023, he has committed to his slider as his primary offering against right handed hitters, which has generated a whiff rate of 36.0% – comparable to a 39.7% whiff rate on the offering in 2022. Facing left-handed batters, Elder has three distinct offerings that are generating a 20.0% whiff rate or better, led by his cutter, which has produced a 37.5% whiff rate through his first two turns in the rotation. Today, Elder gets to face a Kansas City Royals offense that ranks 28th in strikeout percentage, 27th in swinging-strike%, and 29th in swing% on pitches outside of the strike zone. Factor in that Junior Valentine is calling balls and strikes in this contest and we have a recipe for an over.
MLB DFS Pick’em
Kris Bubic more than 5.0 pitcher strikeouts, PrizePicks
Kris Bubic has gone from an automatic fade to someone that appears trustworthy on the mound with his new pitch arsenal. Through two turns in the rotation, Bubic ranks in the 91st percentile in whiff% among qualified pitchers. His newly-minted slider has produced a 100% whiff rate against right-handed batters and a 42.9% whiff rate against left-handed batters in a small sample size to begin the year. Today, Bubic gets a favorable matchup against an Atlanta Braves lineup that ranks 22nd in strikeout percentage against southpaws to begin the new year. Bubic could be poised for another strong performance on Saturday.
