MLB Player Props Today
- Jacob deGrom u19.5 outs recorded
- Grayson Rodriguez o5.5 strikeouts
- Martin Maldonado less than 0.5 total bases
Jacob deGrom u19.5 outs recorded (-119), Caesars
Earlier this week, Jacob deGrom had thrown four innings of no-hit baseball against the Kansas City Royals, but was mysteriously removed from the contest after throwing only 58 pitches. It was later revealed that deGrom was dealing with wrist soreness. After completing his side work issue-free a couple of days ago, deGrom has been cleared to start on Sunday afternoon, but it remains to be seen if he can get to 100 pitches without his wrist causing him any issues. Further, it is doubtful that the Texas Rangers, which only recently signed deGrom to five-year, $185 million contract, would push deGrom through any level of discomfort on the mound. Injury news aside, deGrom has only eclipsed this market number in four of his last 15 starts, dating back to last season. The Oakland Athletics have an anemic offensive attack, but the Rangers have a rested bullpen and little reason to be reckless with deGrom in this situation. Take the under on his outs here.
Grayson Rodriguez o5.5 strikeouts (-165), BetMGM
Entering play on Sunday, Grayson Rodriguez ranks in the 82nd percentile in chase rate and the 69th percentile in whiff rate in 2023. In three turns through the rotation, he has yet to have fewer than five strikeouts — and he has 14 combined strikeouts in his last two trips to the mound. Rodriguez owns a 39.4 K% when he gets ahead in the count 0-1 this season, which is good news for him against a Detroit Tigers offense with the fourth-highest first-pitch strike% in the MLB so far this year. Rodriguez will also benefit from the K-friendly Nick Mahrley calling balls and strikes on Sunday. The primary concern for Rodriguez is a potential Detroit lineup that is stacked with LHB, but bettors should be willing to roll the dice on there being at least four RHB in the batting order for the Tigers in this matchup. It is unlikely that this market number is still available at near even money by the time first pitch rolls around.

MLB DFS Pick’em
Martin Maldonado less than 0.5 total bases, PrizePicks
Since the beginning of 2021, Martin Maldonado owns a .178 batting average and has struck out in nearly a third of his plate appearances. Though he is at his most dangerous against southpaws, Maldonado’s “most dangerous” was still only a .212 batting average in 110 plate appearances last season. Today, he will have to contend with one of the best left-handed hurlers in the league, with Max Fried on the mound. Maldonado is as close to an automatic out as there is in the big leagues – do not expect much from him at the dish on Sunday.
