MLB Player Props Today
- Mason Miller o5.5 strikeouts
- Joey Lucchesi o4.5 strikeouts
- Miguel Cabrera less than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Mason Miller o5.5 strikeouts (-120), FanDuel
The following information is not a typo, but it did occur in a relatively small sample size – Mason Miller struck out 50.0% of the batters he faced at the A+ level of the minor leagues last year. He struck out north of 60.0% of the batters he faced at Double-A and Triple-A to begin 2023 before earning a promotion to the big leagues. In two starts since joining the Oakland Athletics rotation, Miller owns a 30.6% strikeout rate, despite some early troubles missing bats. Impressively, Miller has generated swings and misses against both left- and right-handed batters, exponentially increasing his strikeout potential on a start-to-start basis and making him relatively immune to creative lineup construction by opposing managers. On Tuesday, Miller gets a favorable matchup against the Seattle Mariners, which rank 30th in strikeout percentage across both the last 14 days and the last 30 days. Across the last two weeks, the Mariners rank 26th in contact% on pitches inside the strike zone and 29th in contact% on pitches outside of the strike zone. Miller should have little trouble earning his fair share of punch-outs this evening – take the over.
Joey Lucchesi o4.5 strikeouts (-111), Caesars
Joey Lucchesi has made two starts at the big league level this season, one of which came in an extremely favorable matchup against the San Fransisco Giants, with the other coming against the high-contact Washington Nationals. Against the Giants, Lucchesi compiled nine strikeouts and forced an abundance of swings and misses outside of the strike zone. The Nationals were much more disciplined, forcing Lucchesi to work more frequently in the zone. Lucchesi had only three strikeouts in that matchup. Tonight, Lucchesi will have another favorable matchup against the Detroit Tigers, which rank 29th in strikeout percentage against left-handed pitching this season – compared to the Giants, which rank 28th. Lucchesi should have every opportunity to get to five strikeouts in this spot, especially with a taxed bullpen after the New York Mets played a doubleheader on Monday.
MLB DFS Pick’em
Miguel Cabrera less than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs, PrizePicks
Miguel Cabrera is a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but we need to be honest about his performance in 2023 – it’s uninspiring, to say the least. In 56 plate appearances, Cabrera has a .189 batting average and only three runs-batted-in, exclusively batting in the bottom half of the Detroit Tigers lineup. According to props.cash, Cabrera has only eclipsed this number in four of 15 games played this year. He has yet to record more than two hits + runs + RBIs in any contest this spring. We are past the days of expecting greatness, or even mediocrity, from Cabrera at the dish.
