Card Stock Concepts - NFL Pre-Season Investments
The NFL season is almost here which means we need to have or be preparing to get our portfolios in order for the season. One of the things that has stayed true is that quarterbacks are still king. Don’t get me wrong, position players are absolutely picking up some steam, but if you can get your hands on the gunslingers at the right time you are sure to be profitable long term. We are going to take this article on a different turn this week. Instead of focusing on things that are card specific, we are going to go players specific in terms of what’s happening currently in the market. I will always have recommended buys at the end of the article, so be sure to check those out, but I wanted to key in on some different data this time and see what nuggets we could uncover. Let’s hop right in and check a few things out!

Who’s Who at Quarterback
If you take a look at the chart above we are able to gather so much fantastic data all in one place. I have this particular chart sorted by the most sales in a 30 day period for NFL players and a filter for only PSA 10 products. As you can see quarterbacks are the headliners. The interesting piece of this particular chart is that the headliner of the headliners in terms of sales is none other than Kyler Murray. He continues to be a popular pickup throughout the hobby and continues to get weapons to try and get the job done. He is only up 7.85% as a player (which is a combination of all of the card sales) and seems to have plenty of meat on the bone as he enters his third season. As he continues to mature at the quarterback position and his team improves as a whole big things should be coming for Kyler. I think he is an exceptional pick up heading into the season.
Another big standout for me is that despite the number of sales Lamar Jackson seems to be in a tier below some of his counterparts. I definitely think winning will cure all of these woes. He is in a fairly tough division and will have to really improve from a total season perspective to see the types of seasonal gains you may be looking for, but the upside is there. This is still a playoff team with Super Bowl aspirations and as long as he’s in the backfield and improves in the passing attack we should see some nice spikes along the way. I’m also very big on liquidity and despite his total card portfolio trending down in a very minor way, he’s still one of the most sought after players in the NFL space and we can definitely look to pick up some of his pieces before it is too late.
The big surprise for me on this list was our good friend Daniel Jones. I took a step back and thought about how he made it on here considering the Giants have had fairly abysmal seasons recently. Then it hit me… He has so many weapons and one of his biggest ones is returning by the name of Saquan Barkley. Not only that, they added Kenny Golladay, picked up Kadarius Toney in the draft, still have Evan Engram, Sterling Shephard, and Darius Slayton. Did I mention that they play in what could be considered the worst division in the NFL. All of these ingredients come together to form the perfect recipe of success for Mr. Jones. I can honestly say that he is not someone I intended to invest in prior to the season, but this is the power of Market Movers. I don’t have to like a player to understand the value of the investment. Daniel Jones is absolutely someone I am looking to pick up prior to the season and will intend to sell at the right time.
We can clearly see a group of Super Bowl contenders on this list as well in Mahomes, Brady, and Josh Allen. I don’t want anyone to think that I overlooked them, but these guys will continue to command tons of attention year round because of what they are are doing on the field along with their respective teams. I would actively look for pricing discrepancies along the way to get into some of their lower pop count rookies. This is the secret to success with players like this. Yes, I do want the Mahomes Optic Rated Rookie, but if I can find an alternate color like a Lime version out of 25 (just as an example/not a factual version here) I would be more inclined to invest at a price that me be a little lowered compared to the more poplar ones to increase the upside prior to playoff time.
