How do you handle the season game-log statistics that include matchups with FCS opponents?

headChopper: I start digging into stats around this time every year, and I don’t throw out everything from soft competition. If players or teams dominate against cupcakes, I take it with a grain of salt. But if they struggle in those spots, that’s something I’ll use against them. There’s definitely bias baked in, but that’s what DFS is – trusting your thoughts and opinions.

MrTuttle05: PFF launched a new Usage and Production Report tool that makes it easier to parse out garbage time production this season, which I incorporate into our CFB DFS projections.

stlcardinals84: These games can largely be ignored for trying to figure out player usage. Big-name players are generally going to sit in the 2nd half of those games, and it’s not like the yards per carry or total yardage numbers matter when Ohio State is playing an FCS school. This will become less important as we get more data points in the season, but it’s definitely important to review in the first month or two.

Jordan Vanek: I completely disregard stats that come from FCS opponents and do my best to filter out numbers against significantly weak teams. Nebraska last weekend was the perfect example. Against Cincinnati, they allowed over 6 yards per rushing attempt, but after facing Akron and Houston Christian, that number dropped to just 4 yards per carry. Then Michigan came in and shredded them for 286 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 33 carries — an average of 8.7 yards per attempt. Who you have played is the single most essential factor when navigating CFB DFS. Without accounting for opponent strength, the numbers can be wildly misleading and lead to poor decisions.

What’s your hot take of the slate?
