Let’s put some props together.
Chargers vs. Chiefs Same Game Parlay Preview
- Over 49.5 Points
- Patrick Mahomes 300+ Passing Yards
- Joshua Palmer Over 39.5 Receiving Yards
- DeAndre Carter Over 24.5 Receiving Yards
- Gerald Everett Under 44.5 Receiving Yards
Thursday Night Football Odds & Storylines
The Chiefs and Chargers both opened the season with a victory albeit in drastically different fashions. The Chiefs destroyed the Cardinals on the road with Patrick Mahomes throwing five touchdown passes for a perfect QB rating. On the other hand, the Chargers endured the late charges by the Raiders in a game that was significantly more sloppy than betting sites projected. In the loss, the Chargers lost Keenan Allen who will not play in Week 2. For a great breakdown of the Thursday Night matchup, read Nick Galaida’s betting preview.
Ahead of tonight’s affair, you can find the Chargers +4.5 at a handful of sports betting sites. The implied game total sits at 54 points. Oddsmakers expect a back-and-forth high-scoring affair. Last season, the teams split the set with the Chargers beating the Chiefs 30-24 in the opening game. The Chiefs won the second matchup with an overtime touchdown 34-28. The injury report is pretty clean except for two key players. The Chargers will be without Keenan Allen with a hamstring injury. J.C. Jackson is questionable for a Chargers secondary that could use the help in short order. Even if Jackson returns, the Chiefs will likely move the ball without much difficulty. As for the Chiefs, the only key injury is Harrison Butker. Butker is week-to-week with Matt Ammendola signed to hold the fort in the interim.
I am a sucker for potential primetime shootouts. The Chargers and Chiefs didn’t let us down last season. I don’t think we will be let down, tonight. The beauty of one-game parlays is we can tease props or lines to fit the game flow of our projected outcome. Let’s start combing sites for some offensive props.
Chargers-Chiefs Parlay Picks & Props
Patrick Mahomes Passing Yards
Let’s just get this out of the way. I am going to find a way to take the over on Patrick Mahomes passing yardage. While the Chargers’ defense is more imposing than that of the Cardinals, the Chiefs are going to keep throwing the football. Mahomes finished with a ho-hum 360 passing yards in an absolute drubbing of Arizona. If the Chargers are able to playback even a bit, Mahomes and the Chiefs will likely keep the pedal down. His passing prop rests just below 300 passing yards but we can look for an alternate line for a little more cushion. I feel pretty comfortable with Mahomes exceeding the 300-yard mark and might not even need to tease the line.
Now, with regard to correlation, if I expect Patrick Mahomes to pass for plenty of yards, I am looking for one of his receivers to go over or even some Chargers to help keep up the pace. If I am looking to boost my odds a bit, I might consider looking for a Chief to go under. That said, given my projected game script, that feels unlikely.
Joshua Palmer Receiving Yards
When Keenan Allen missed a game last season against the New York Giants, the DFS world looked to Joshua Palmer to fill the void. The regarded second-year player did not get off the ground in a sloppy game, converting his 4 targets into a measly 5 receiving yards. I do not expect that outcome to be repeated and I would anticipate that Herbert looks to involve both Palmer and Williams early and often. The Chargers will not win this football by pounding the rock and playing keep-away. Instead, they will need to move the ball and cash in with touchdowns. I am very bullish on all of the Chargers’ receivers but see plenty of value in Palmer’s line.
Palmer’s receiving prop is circling around 46.5 receiving yards. I would love to tease that down a bit — especially if I include Patrick Mahomes passing prop as given.
DeAndre Carter Receiving Yards
Speaking of receiving overs, DeAndre Carter emerged as a passing option for Justin Herbert before and after Keenan Allen went down to injury. Do I think Carter is going to be inserted in an alpha-receiver role?
Of course not! That said, Carter’s baseline prop is pretty low. Sitting below 30 yards, we can take that line or even tease it down some for a much easier hurdle to hop over. I like using the Chargers’ receivers low receiving props to correlate with a large game from Patrick Mahomes.
Take the over
We are going to include the over… sort of. I might consider the normal implied total but more likely will tease this down to give myself some cushion. The absence of Harrison Butker makes me lean towards to Chiefs going for it on fourth down more often. We already know that the Chargers’ head coach is going to go on fourth down early and often. Both teams will be vying for touchdowns throughout the contest. Give me the over, in some fashion.
Gerald Everett Receiving Yards
So, in a completely contradictory fashion, we are going to act bearishly towards the receiving prop of Gerald Everett. Everett scored a touchdown in the first week with 54 yards on 4 targets. Everett’s score appeared to be a broken play where the veteran tight end got loose. In both games, last season, the Chargers’ various tight ends were relatively limited. Jared Cook, Tre’ McKitty, and Donald Parham were pretty quiet despite large passing numbers on both sides. The Chiefs were a bit better than league average with opposing tight ends last season. So, I think am going to find a way to get under on this prop.
This is going to be a robust parlay. We will hope for a boost and potentially wager a bit less.
TNF Single Game Parlay Review
So, for the second time, we are going to use DraftKings. I do like the prices on Caesars but do not love the inability to tease prop lines. We are going to remember this when I want to just keep the lines as is for a one-game parlay. FanDuel has teased lines but is not offering anything on DeAndre Carter at the time of this writing. DraftKings lets us include all five legs and we should be able to find a boost on the site before the game. Therefore, we are going to go with a very fun five-leg parlay. Remember, fun is the operative word in this article. This type of parlay should be a micro-sized bet for a fun sweat and the hopes of hitting a big payout. Here’s the parlay on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Over 49.5 Points
Patrick Mahomes 300+ Passing Yards
Joshua Palmer Over 39.5 Receiving Yards
DeAndre Carter Over 24.5 Receiving Yards
Gerald Everett Under 44.5 Receiving Yards
Parlay Price: +800
Risk: 1/2 unit to win 4 units
Good luck with all of your bets and plays this evening. Share your parlays with me on Twitter and any other plays you are making for the game. First touchdown scorers? Touchdowns? DFS lineups? I want to hear it all. Thanks for reading.
