The first half of the NBA regular season will conclude this evening with a matchup between the Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns at the Footprint Center. Entering play, Los Angeles (32-28) and Phoenix (32-27) both occupy one of the top-five spots in the Western Conference standings. Tonight, oddsmakers are expecting a competitive game script between these two teams, pricing Phoenix as 1-point home favorites on the spread.
Los Angeles Clippers
Powell OUT
This season, the Clippers are 27-23 with Powell in the lineup, compared to a 5-5 record in games with him in street clothes. Powell is the Clippers’ third-leading scorer this year, averaging 17.0 points in 50 games played. He is the team’s primary threat from beyond-the-arc, attempting 11.7 three-point field goals per contest, and shooting 41.7% on such attempts.
Who will step up for the Clippers?
Per CourtIQ, Powell’s usage is spread relatively evenly across the board when he is out of the lineup, with no player receiving more than a +3.3% increase in usage in these situations. Still, one player who consistently produces at a high level in Powell’s absence is Terance Mann.
From December 3 to December 17, with Powell out of the lineup, Mann contributed 10.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in 25.4 minutes of action. Expect him to see a slight increase in production this evening.

Phoenix Suns
Life without Bridges
In three games since trading Mikal Bridges to the Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix is 2-1, with wins over the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings, and their lone loss coming on the road against the Atlanta Hawks. In those three contests, the Suns rank 23rd in offensive efficiency and 5th in defensive efficiency, relying primarily on their ability to get stops to give themselves an opportunity to win.
Who has stepped up following Bridges’ departure?
Across the last three games, Deandre Ayton is averaging 24.7 points and 8.0 rebounds in 32.0 minutes of action. Devin Booker, still on a minutes restriction, has posted 26.5 points per game in each of his two contests in that span. Josh Okogie has been the team’s biggest surprise, contributing 20.3 points on an efficient 55.0% shooting from the field in an expanded role.
Clippers vs. Suns – Picks & Predictions
Prior to Booker’s injury, the Phoenix Suns were 13-3 on their home floor. In Phoenix’s first home game with Booker in the lineup following his injury, they emerged victorious by a final score of 120-109 against the Sacramento Kings.
Tonight, the Suns will host a Los Angeles Clippers team that has both of their top-two scorers on a minutes restriction, in addition to having their third leading scorer ruled out entirely. The Clippers are only 17-15 on the road this season, compared to the Suns, which are 14-3 at home with a healthy Booker on the floor.
