curtispainter Wins FanDuel World Fantasy Basketball Championship

FanDuel held their World Fantasy Basketball Championship (“WFBBC”) last night and a thrilling come from behind win by the Portland Trail Blazers also led to a thrilling come from behind win for curtispainter, who used three players from that game in his winning lineup. Most notably it was the huge 4th quarter from Damian Lillard at 23% ownership that would be the biggest difference maker as he would end the night with 58.5 fantasy points.

Let’s recap the action, some of the lineups, and the final standings and winning lineup.

The WFBBC was held at the NBA Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts and had a two million dollar prize pool and 100 total entrants (some players qualified multiple times). A minimum cash was worth $7,000 and first place took home $300,000. Full payouts were as follows:

1st — $300,000
2nd — $150,000
3rd — $100,000
4th — $80,000
5th — $60,000
6th – 7th — $50,000
8th – 10th — $40,000
11th – 13th — $35,000
14th – 16th — $30,000
17th – 20th — $25,000
21st – 26th — $20,000
27th – 33rd — $15,000
34th – 41st — $12,000
42nd – 50th — $10,000
51st – 60th — $9,000
61st – 74th — $8,000
75th – 100th — $7,000

Early on it was ChipotleAddict with a Russell Westbrook centered lineup leading the way, but the Thunder/Warriors game would become a blowout and the DFS legend would end up finishing in the middle of the pack.

ThatStunna is a top 10 ranked Grinder and he’d make his presence known in the middle of the tournament with a big game from Kyrie Irving at the center of his Russell Westbrook lineup. That lineup would fare better then ChipotleAddict’s finishing in 24th place overall but it’s hard to win a GPP with a 40 fantasy point performance from a player who was priced at $11,200 (Westbrook).

Next to top the standings was huskydogs and he would hold the top spot until the very end with a very strong Kyrie Irving-Stephen Curry PG combo led lineup.

It would be that late Damian Lillard run that would move curtispainter (better known as RikkiDee in the DFS industry) into the lead to give him the title and the huge six-figure payday. He went with Stephen Curry as his other PG with some of the popular chalk options in Nemanja Bjelica (83% owned), Andrew Wiggins (52% owned), and Alex Len (47%) owned helping to fill out his roster. The relatively low owned PG duo (both under 30%) was ultimately the difference maker for the top DFS pro who is off to a phenomenal start in 2018. Congratulations to all the participants in the WFBBC and our winner curtispainter!
