Daily Batter Breakdown: Independence Day
Welcome to the Daily Batter Breakdown. Each day, with at least 8 games on the night slate, I’ll breakdown some of the best top tier hitters to target based on matchup. The biggest split taken into account will be left/right, but each player card will also show park factors, player salaries and then a description of why I’ll be targeting him. Be sure to check out the FAQ for more information on specific stats.
Another game in Coors Field makes Independence day what should be another high-owned fireworks fiasco for the Dodgers righties even though last night was not that high scoring. Have a happy 4th everyone with lots of American Food and a few adult beverages and some good luck on your DFS teams.
NOTE: TODAYS BOSTON VS BALTIMORE GAME HAS BEEN POSTPONED

Salvador Perez
After putting together some awful games, Tomlin racked up 11 KO on his way to a CGSO last time out. I highly doubt that he gets a long way through this game and Sal Perez and his reverse splits should be a big part of it. Perez is hitting at an .834 clip against right handers this year and Tomlin is allowing a .711 OPS to righties which is worse than lefties. He is a very sneaky play tonight at catcher.
| Jose Abreu | |||||||

Jose Abreu
Abreu is an absolute stud and one of the safest options on the board today that you can use. He’s been better against right handers this year but I have no issue using him against Elias today. He’s always one of the biggest favorites to homer in a game and his numbers at home are really solid this year.

| 0.989 | 1.023 | $4,100 | $6,361 | $4,000 | $85,500 | |||
Scooter Gennett
Gennett should play tonight against Simon and with a 2nd base pool that I really don’t like a whole lot today he makes a solid play. He’s still fairly cheap and his .909 OPS against righties and solid HR numbers are really solid today. The L/R matchup here, hitter’s park and that Simon is worse against lefties makes up for how solid Simon has been lately.
| Evan Longoria | |||||||
| Daily Breakdown | Avg | OPS | HR% | wOBA | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Left/Right Splits | 0.329 | 0.915 | 2.44% | 0.396 | ||||

| 1.139 | 1.090 | $3,600 | $7,036 | $9,100 | $4,800 | $71,600 | ||
Evan Longoria
Longoria gets to face one of the worst pitchers on the board today and while Smyly isn’t bad, he isn’t the caliber of some of the other guys going. Longoria is known for crushing left handed pitching and with the Rays playing solid baseball lately I really like chances of a big game for him. It helps that Smyly has been dealing with an infection, has given up a .893 OPS to right handers and 9 of the 10 HRs.
| Hanley Ramirez | |||||||

| 1.273 | 1.146 | $4,600 | $8,464 | $10,750 | $4,700 | $90,900 | ||
Hanley Ramirez
Lots of good pitching options out there tonight so there won’t be a ton of great hitting options. The one thing that should be prevalent throughout this Colorado series is that the Dodgers righties should be in a great position to do damage every night. With Hanley coming back (he left the game last night so make sure he’s in the lineup) this Dodgers lineup should reverse their fortunes from last night and put up 8 or more runs.
| Alex Rios | |||||||

| 0.867 | 0.961 | $2,700 | $4,206 | $4,100 | $48,900 | $6,300 | $8,300 | |
Alex Rios
Jon Niese is pretty solid however he’s been worse against RHB this year giving up 6 of his 7 HRs against them. Niese gives up about 2-3 runs per game usually and Rios should be a solid part of those runs. Rios’ .394 average and 1.120 OPS against LHP this year really makes me think that Rios is in line for a huge game.
| Scott Van Slyke | |||||||
| Daily Breakdown | Avg | OPS | HR% | wOBA | ||||

| 1.273 | 1.146 | $2,700 | $5,630 | $6,900 | $3,000 | $39,500 | ||
Scott Van Slyke
Van Slyke has some ridiculous numbers against LHP including a 1.178 OPS and 6 HR. Coors Field is going to boost all of those numbers and if the first game in Coors rule holds true, Van Slyke should be in for a monster game tonight if he’s in the lineup. He was highly owned last night for how cheap he is across the industry and he should be highly owned again.
| George Springer | |||||||
| Daily Breakdown | Avg | OPS | HR% | wOBA | ||||

| 0.968 | 1.066 | $4,400 | $6,643 | $9,950 | $4,100 | $85,100 | ||
George Springer
Springer has shown us that he can do a lot lately including strikeout so I don’t really like him on a site like Draftstreet but on a site with no negative points like DK he makes a solid play. He’s definitely got the upside and Wilson has been terrible lately. He’s been bad against righties this year as well with a .732 OPS given up and 10 of his 11 HRs.
| Dayan Viciedo | |||||||
| Daily Breakdown | Avg | OPS | HR% | wOBA | ||||

| 0.998 | 0.971 | $2,600 | $5,084 | $3,500 | $63,000 | $5,700 | $8,100 | |
Dayan Viciedo
Viciedo hasn’t been great lately but he has hit 3 homers in the last week or so and hits really solid against left handers. He’s facing one of the worst pitchers on the board today in Elias and is cheap across the industry as well as hitting in a hitter’s park. Vicideo and Abreu should make a solid combo at the top of the lineup.
| Joey Votto | |||||||

| 0.989 | 1.023 | $3,300 | $6,564 | $9,900 | $4,500 | $74,500 | ||
Joey Votto
Votto doesn’t really seem to be the same player but he really still has some solid numbers on the season. I like him against Lohse today even though it seems like a low upside play. I would use Votto in H2H games because he’s always solid for a walk or two in the game and he’s at the cheapest he’s been in a very long time.++
