Daily Batter Breakdown: Mon, June 2nd
Welcome to the Daily Batter Breakdown. Each day, with at least 8 games on the night slate, I’ll breakdown some of the best top tier hitters to target based on matchup. The biggest split taken into account will be left/right, but each player card will also show park factors, player salaries and then a description of why I’ll be targeting him. Be sure to check out the FAQ for more information on specific stats.
DraftKings is putting together a solid promo this week where they are offering an Atlantis Package to the winner of the 5 man tournament which involves the winners of the 5 qualifiers this week. FanDuel’s Survivor’s continue and while I’m not thrilled with them using Mondays instead of Tuesdays for their qualifiers, this Monday at least has a schedule of 8 games. It should be interesting as there aren’t a ton of obvious options on the plate today.

A.J. Pierzynski
Pierzynski continues to be one of the cheaper catchers on the board even though he’s been swinging a crazy hot bat lately. He has a 1.117 OPS in the last 7 days and has always crushed right handers in his career. In a game against a pitcher in Masterson who struggles against left handed batters and is one of the highest over/unders on the board, he makes a really solid play. The Red Sox have randomly caught fire along with Pierzynski and it looks like a good night to roll him out at catcher.

Tommy Medica
I had Medica pegged as one of my better options for tonight’s game against the Pirates but it appears that he’s suffering from a quad strain. I am hoping he’s in the lineup tonight because I think he makes a sneaky option against Morton. Although he isn’t one of the cheapest options available, he won’t break the bank either. He’s been solid since being called up and he has done good work against righties in his brief time in the majors. Morton has been trash against righties this year, giving up all of his surrendered homers against righties. Althought he’s a serviceable pitcher, he’s definitely not one to avoid hitters against. Medica is a good 1B play if you want to go the contrarian route.
| Scooter Gennett | |||||||

Scooter Gennett
Gennett is back to minimum salary on FanDuel and close to or at minimum on a lot of the sites. He had a monster game last time out and if he gets the nod at 2nd today against Gibson over Weeks (which he should), he makes a solid play no matter where he hits. Gennett blasts right handers and Gibson can be very inconsistent. Due to the Brewers recent offensive output, I would expect a lot of scoring opportunites for Gennett today.
| Evan Longoria | |||||||

Evan Longoria
The Red Sox/Rays series before this last one sent these two teams in different directions. The Red Sox have won a bunch and the Rays have several in a row recently. Longoria has been batting 2nd of late, but with Zobrist back in the lineup, he may move down to 3rd, which doesn’t deplete his fantasy value in any way. Although Longo has been struggling this year, his matchup against Wolf in Marlins Park still makes him a solid value. Longoria has a long history of crushing left handed pitchers and Wolf is an old guy with not a lot of quality starts left in his system. Longo could be in for a few extra base hits tonight.
| Jean Segura | |||||||

Jean Segura
Gibson went for 6 innings and 0 ER so that means he’s good for a 2 inning 6 ER game right? Vegas doesn’t like him today and neither do I against the red hot Brewers who should have a solid game today. Segura has always been good against right handers (in fact, much better). While Gibson has been better against righties this year, I don’t anticipate Segura having any problems getting on-base. Once he is on, he has a solid chance at stealing a base and scoring some rungs with the guys batting behind him.
| Andrew McCutchen | |||||||

Andrew McCutchen
McCutchen is still a top salary guy on a few sites, but at 3,600 on FanDuel and 7.3K on DraftStreet with some really cheap prices on the other sites, I’m not sure how you say no to him on cheap sites. He has a solid major league track record of being a great hitter and his salary on these sites are almost criminal. He’s been struggling lately but looked solid Sunday night and should be able to take Tim Stauffer who was AWFUL last time out. At the sites where he’s cheap, he’s an incredible steal.
| Matt Kemp | |||||||

Matt Kemp
If you told me that Matt Kemp would be sub 5k on DraftStreet last year, I would have told you that you are nuts. Well, he is and he’s extremely cheap on the other sites as well basically because he’s been terrible this year. He’ shown a bit of life in the last 2 games and has always killed left handers so I will use him against Quintana. Quintana has been good but has been hittable and I think using the Matt Kemp at this price has the chance to be one of the better bargain options of the next week or so.
| Brock Holt | |||||||

Brock Holt
Have the Red Sox found their leadoff hitter? What a game for Holt on Sunday as he went for 4 doubles and a stolen base along with 2 RBI and a run. The great thing about that is Holt’s price hasn’t risen almost at all and that he should still be leading off tonight. Holt isn’t going to give you multiple homer power but he does provide some pop and average and is cheap all along with facing a pitcher who really struggles against lefties.
| Kyle Seager | |||||||
| Daily Breakdown | Avg | OPS | HR% | wOBA | ||||

Kyle Seager
Seager has a nice hit streak going and has also had 2 homers in the last 4 games. Kyle is a solid player and although Phelps is worse against righties, Seager is a much better hitter against right handed pitchers. Seager is cheap and I really don’t think a lot of people are going to have him tonight and he could make the difference at 3rd base in the short late tonight if he does go deep.

Ryan Braun
There are a lot of Brewers on the list today as I think that Gibson is in line to get smacked around today. Braun has been solid lately with a lot of multiple hit games in the last 2 weeks and 2 homers in the last 3. Braun can hit anyone and although Gibson has been solid against righties this year I think he could really be in trouble today against this Brewers offense. You will have to pay up for Braun today but I really like him in Miller Park against a pitcher who is known to collapse under pressure.
