Daily Batter Breakdown: Monday, June 8th
Welcome to the Daily Batter Breakdown. Whenever there are at least eight games on the night slate, I’ll break down some of the best top tier hitters to target based on matchup.
The biggest split taken into account will be left/right, but each player card will also show park factors, player salaries on FanDuel and DraftKings among other sites, and then a description of why I’ll be targeting him.
Coors is hard to ignore on a shorter slate such as this without many solid options otherwise, but as a disclaimer we will again ignore it here. All hitters from Coors should make solid plays once again.

Derek Norris
Norris is known for crushing lefties and lefties he does crush, but here he makes a decent play against a righty. The chalk is going to be Martin or the Coors game, but Norris has been extremely hot lately with the resurgence of this Padres offense and is having the best season of his career against RHP, even while playing in Petco. We are looking at a .322 wOBA and a .191 ISO against RHP, and even though there is no platoon advantage, his salary is low and Miller’s xFIP is not great against righties at 4.25. Miller has been one of the luckiest pitchers so far this year and Norris could get to him.

Justin Bour
Bour hits almost exclusively against RHP, so luckily for him he gets to face Marco Estrada today in Rogers Centre. Estrada has had a decent year and is not a terrible pitcher, however he is vulnerable to the homer, and Bour is extremely inexpensive. Oh, and did I mention Bour is sporting a .434 wOBA along with a .261 ISO, and also has a 1.009 OPS against right-handed pitching this year? His value is fantastic at his price.

Dee Gordon
Gordon has not tried to steal a base in the last week, which seems like total heresy for one of the best base-stealers in the nation. Estrada gives up a ton of homers, but should also be vulnerable to Gordon, who has a .379 wOBA this year against righties. The Marlins went from Coors to the Rogers Centre, which are the two highest scoring parks in the majors, and they should continue scoring runs.

Danny Valencia
Valencia does not get a lot of playing time, but he starts against lefties and for good reason. He has a .403 wOBA against them this year, and while that is a huge number, it is not necessarily unsustainable. His .379 career wOBA with a .169 career ISO show that he is a fantastic hitter against lefties, and that production at this low price means he should be considered in all formats.

Jose Reyes
Outside of the Coors Field game, the Jays have the highest over under of the night, so they are going to be highly owned. Hand has not been great, allowing a good number of runs this year but keeping his peripheral stats at a decent level. He does have a career 4.80 xFIP against righties, and Reyes is one of the top leadoff hitters in the league, proven by the last few games. Reyes is expensive, but is one of the top SS if you are not paying up for Tulo.

Jose Bautista
Another Jay makes an appearance here against Hand and for good reason. There are not a lot of great stacks on this day, but outside of Coors, Toronto makes the best one. I talked about Hand’s inability to get lefties out earlier and Bautista has been one of the best hitters against LHB in the past two years, with a .461 wOBA and a .424 wOBA. He is one of the top power hitters in the game, and after hitting two homers yesterday, he should be locked in today as well.

Ben Revere
Revere is hot at the top of the Phillies lineup. Recommending anyone from this team seems crazy, but they have been hitting much better lately. Leake has a 2.04 HR/9 against lefties, and while Revere is not much of a home run hitter, he does have an ability to steal bases against righties and has been doing a solid job of getting on base. We are not looking for power here; we are looking for the SB upside and the .345 wOBA that Leake allows to lefties.
| Ender Inciarte | ||||||

| 0.907 | 0.000 | $3,000 | $7,150 | $3,600 | $65,600 | ||
Ender Inciarte
Inciarte has been hitting at the top of the Diamondbacks lineup against righties and today he gets Bolsinger, who has been great this year against lefties. The problem is, he allowed a .389 wOBA last year against them and let in a ton of runs. He is likely somewhere in between the two numbers, but Inciarte’s price and the fact that he is able to steal bases at will against righties makes him an attractive option in this game, especially with not a lot of other solid options available.

Maikel Franco
Leake has been solid against righties so far this year, but Franco has been doing his power damage against righties. In a hitter’s park against a pitcher who has been very homer prone this year, Franco makes a solid GPP play; everyone will be on Leake against the Phillies instead of the Phillies bats. Franco has a .250 ISO and a .313 wOBA despite having a terrible BABIP and really only hitting balls out of the park.

A.J. Pierzynski
The old man is in the midst of one of his better hitting seasons of his career, with a .343 wOBA against righties and a nice .171 ISO. This is all subject to come crashing down at some point, but currently he just keeps producing. His price is not rising and he gets to face Kennedy, who has allowed a .427 wOBA to lefties this year. Kennedy’s xFIP shows some improvement is likely, but he has generally been bad against lefties, making Freeman a solid play as well here.
