Daily Batter Breakdown: Tue, August 5th

Welcome to the Daily Batter Breakdown. Each day, with at least 8 games on the night slate, I’ll breakdown some of the best top tier hitters to target based on matchup. The biggest split taken into account will be left/right, but each player card will also show park factors, player salaries and then a description of why I’ll be targeting him. Be sure to check out the FAQ for more information on specific stats.

A pretty big night of DFS on tap tonight brings us a 100k first place prize and a Coors Field game which should be high scoring one. Javier Baez should be in the lineup and makes a solid play if he’s available even at the 4k on DK which he is at, but I did not include him today. I quickly glanced over the weather and there might by some concerns but I’m not expecting too much at all.

Wilin Rosario

Rosario is cheap, especially on FanDuel today and has a great matchup against Travis Wood who hasn’t exactly been good this year. Wood has allowed a .826 OPS to right handed batters in this season with 10 homers and is also sporting an ugly 1.54 WHIP. Rosario destroys left handed pitching and is my top catcher on the board. He’s got a .925 OPS this year with almost 1 HR every 10 AB and last year hit 22 HR in 256 AB with a 1.016 OPS. One interesting coincidence is that his middle name is actually Arismendy.

Jose Abreu

Abreu makes another great play tonight against Lewis who has been terrible this year. Lewis has been worse against lefties, but Abreu is a guy who is doesn’t really matter who he is facing, he will get it done. It helps that Abreu has hit 24 HR off right handers and has a .984 OPS. He should have a nice night in a hitter’s park.

Arismendy Alcantara

Even though he may be not in the leadoff role anymore, he should still be a solid play in Coors Field against Anderson. The switch hitter doesn’t have too many at-bats to judge off of to determine how well he hits major league left handers but he still should be at the top of the lineup in a bit of a discounted role today in Coors Field.

PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
0.929 0.000 $3,100 $7,600 $4,500 $58,200 $7,500

Pablo Sandoval

Sandoval has been hitting pretty well lately, and his price has risen as such. Nelson has been alright this year but has struggled at home where he has allowed all of his runs. Sandoval is swinging a decently hot bat and hits right handers really well. He should get a boost being away from pitcher friendly AT&T and heading to Miller Park where hitting one out will be a lot easier.

nolan-arenado-100x75 Nolan Arenado

PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
1.383 0.000 $3,300 $9,750 $4,500 $81,700 $9,800

Nolan Arenado

Arenado did not have a good series against the Tigers but gets a chance at redemption today. He has blasted lefties and hit really well at Coors in the last 2 years and should be one of the top options at 3rd base today. Earlier in the year he had a massive hit streak, and he should be able to start building another today against Travis Wood who just hasn’t been good this year.

hanley-ramirez-100x75 Hanley Ramirez

PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
0.910 0.000 $4,000 $10,450 $4,500 $79,500 $10,850

Hanley Ramirez

Hanley definitely has been hit or miss lately and it shows in his price on DK which is pretty low for the talent that he exudes. He has a great shot at a homer tonight against Santiago, who is at a +215 underdog today against Kershaw. I’m expecting a lot more Dodger runs than Angel runs especially due to Santiago pitching for the Angels who has allowed most of the damage this year to come by the way of the right handed hitter. Hanley will be at the top of the lineup as well so he makes a solid DK filler for a Rockies stack.

alex-rios-100x75 Alex Rios

PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
1.014 0.000 $2,800 $8,600 $4,200 $58,900 $8,500

Alex Rios

That 2,800 price point for Rios on FanDuel is definitely enticing especially in US Cellular Field against Danks. Danks has shown a bit of his true colors lately giving up 7, 4, and 4 ER in his last 3 starts with 5 HR given up during that time. He’s allowed a .806 OPS with 16 HR allowed to righties and I think it’s more likely that the struggles continue rather than him figuring it out. Rios’ 1.033 OPS aginst lefties this year isn’t a fluke and his price is rather low for such a solid hitter against lefties.

drew-stubbs-100x75 Drew Stubbs
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA

PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
1.383 0.000 $3,600 $8,150 $4,500 $64,100 $8,150

Drew Stubbs

Stubbs is one of my favorite upside plays tonight and I plan to have him in every Rockies stack and some other ones. I noted above how bad Travis Wood has been and the great part about Stubbs is that he has been just as good or better against lefties than Wood has been bad this season. A 1.036 OPS against lefties with 5 HR in 93 AB is solid and he should be able to improve on those numbers tonight in Coors.

adam-eaton-100x75 Adam Eaton

PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
1.014 0.000 $3,600 $9,200 $5,000 $92,600 $9,600

Adam Eaton

Eaton’s price has reached enormous levels on DraftKings and is inching it’s way up on other sites. While his price is definitely a bit more than I would like to spend, I still am recommending him tonight. He’s as hot as any hitter right now and is contacting everything. He’s also facing Colby Lewis at home who has been just terrible and allowed a .984 OPS to left handed batters. Eaton has almost the best non-Coors upside and floor today.

josh-donaldson-100x75 Josh Donaldson
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA

Smyly – LEFT 0.306 0.888 2.60% 0.386
PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
0.980 0.000 $4,300 $10,200 $4,800 $90,300 $10,750

Josh Donaldson

Donaldson hasn’t been as great lately as he was for the first part of the season, however the fact still remains that he will crush left handed pitching. He’s been struggling lately but still owns a 1.066 OPS against lefties this season and the guy taking the mound against him, Smyly, isn’t the greatest at getting right handers out. Smyly has allowed a .889 OPS to right handed batters and while he’s great against lefties, the A’s are not the team I want to have bad splits against.
