Daily Batter Breakdown: Tue, Jun 10th
Welcome to the Daily Batter Breakdown. Each day, with at least 8 games on the night slate, I’ll breakdown some of the best top tier hitters to target based on matchup. The biggest split taken into account will be left/right, but each player card will also show park factors, player salaries and then a description of why I’ll be targeting him. Be sure to check out the FAQ for more information on specific stats.
What a crazy night last night, as Lonnie Chisenhall had the best game by a hitter I have seen since Josh Hamilton 4 HR game 2 years ago. I profiled Brantley and Kipnis who both had solid games and was really high on all of the Indians so I had Chisenhall in most of my lineups. Even with Chisenall, you still needed Scott Van Slyke to really do a lot of damage. Anyway, lets look to keep the solid plays going tonight.

Evan Gattis
If Gattis is still C eligible on your site, I would roll him out today. There isn’t too much to choose from in the catcher pool so getting a guy in Coors Field who is a homer machine could really give you a leg up on the competition. The “first game in Coors” theory has been on a roll so far this year and I would look to the Braves to score a few more runs in this game. Gattis has a monster hit streak going and has a really nice ISO and is facing Nicasio who has left a bit to be desired this year.

Chris Davis
I liked Chris Davis last night and I like him again today. Workman is going to take the hill for the Red Sox, and if anything he’s been getting worse each start. Davis crushes right handed pitching, and loves hitting at Camden Yards. I see him hitting one out tonight and pretty deep too. He had a couple of almost dingers last night and with Workman not being the greatest righty out there, Davis should do well.

Brian Dozier
Dozier absolutely mashed lefties to a .905 OPS last year, but has faded a bit against them this year. I think his real number is closer to the .905 than the .732 that he’s hitting this year, but time will tell. He hit a leadoff homer last night and should really like hitting in homer-happy Rogers Centre, especially against JA Happ tonight. Happ has put together a few decent starts but has a horrible FB rate and should give up some bombs to this Twins team.

Juan Francisco
I liked Francisco last night against Nolasco, and not surprisingly I like him again. Correia is one of the worst main rotation starters right now and this Blue Jays team should eat him up tonight. His 6.11 ERA, 1.55 WHIP are both bad but he’s also allowing around an .850 OPS to both lefties and righties. Correia is in for a world of hurt tonight and I am not worried about the 0-fer last night.

Jean Segura
This is somewhat of a hunch play, but I watched Dice-K’s last start and it was really miserable. He picked and picked at the corners leading to 5 walks and tried to do that without throwing many people an out pitch. Segura has always been better at hitting right handers, and should be able to get on base really easily against Dice-K tonight especially at home. I also like him to steal a bag tonight because Dice-K has been really slow to the plate and easy to steal on this year.

Leonys Martin
I’m expecting Martin to get in the lineup today and hit at the top. He’s pretty solid against RHP when in the lineup posting around a .750 OPS career with a ton of stolen bases against them. Tom Koehler is not good away from home and somehow this Rangers team is still finding ways to score runs with all of the injuries out there. It’s a hitter’s park and still a 9.5 over/under and I think the Rangers make a really interesting stack today.

Jason Heyward
Heyward was a big disappointment last game, as was the entire Braves offense. I’m looking for a better performance out of them tonight against Nicasio as we will again be testing out this first game in Coors theory. Heyward will be leading off and the same things apply tonight as yesterday. Nicasio hasn’t been great, he’s allowed lefties to hit him well, Heyward brings nice steal upside and he’s playing in the highest over/under game of the night.

Jon Jay
After a couple of masterful starts, Odorizzi has slipped back into low mediocrity in giving up 4-5 runs per game again. His WHIP is 1.53 and he’s allowing an .800 OPS to lefties with 4 of the 5 homers allowed against them. Holliday is dealing with back tightness so I’m expecting Jay to get the start today and he has really nice numbers against right handers in his career.

Freddie Freeman
I cannot give up on Freddie just yet, just like for Heyward and Gattis I am expecting the Braves to break out in this one and be a better stack option. Freeman has double homer power and he hits right handers really well. It’s a lineup full of landmines for Nicasio and I think his .957 OPS allowed to left handed batters should really help the lefties out.

Trevor Plouffe
I really like Plouffe tonight in Target Field and I think he knocks one out against Happ. His numbers against left handed pitching this year aren’t that great but his career numbers are much better and last year he absolutely raked against them hitting a homer once every 20 at bats. Plouffe and the rest of the Twins I like tonight as I have never been a fan of Happ and what he does and especially since his fly ball rate has been terrible, he’s playing in dangerous territory.
