TGITF! A Batter vs. Pitcher Joust

TGITF!! Thank God It’s Tournament Friday. I think I just coined a new phrase. Let me get that to that too a T-shirt maker and start printing those out quick. So another Friday comes our way with tournaments galore on the various sites. However, today I would like to take a look at the Scarlett Knight $500 Joust which the generous fellas at Daily Joust have reconstructed for us. What they have done is break this tournament into 2 different nights so that there is more action to be had for all. Hey, the more days of the week featuring tournaments the better. At least that is what most daily fans would tell you.

I would also like to touch real quickly on a great strategy Joust has put in motion concerning the daily grinders out there. Now Joust is the same group of guys who had those incredible free rolls and promotions going on when they first opened up. So they are not shy about giving back. Now they are taking it up a notch. They have redesigned their badge system and will be featuring real money free rolls for those players who obtain 5 or more badges in that time period. This is a sweet reward for playing on their site frequently, as it isn’t too difficult to qualify for one of the free rolls. That now makes a couple of sites who are giving back with this type of free tournament to reward everyday players. Nice to see the industry is starting to come around in this direction. Tip of the hat to Joust for stepping up to the plate and trying to set themselves out in front of the field. Now let’s get down to the real business of my Joust team this week.

My goal in putting this team together was to focus solely on Batter versus Pitcher matchups that I could squeeze in under the cap with a good pitcher going for my team. I was looking for a minimum of 8 AB’s (approximately 2 full games worth), a .400+ average and some nice peripheral stats. This is what I hammered out:

Breakdown

Let’s take a deeper dive into these numbers:

Player Stats vs Projected Pitcher Other Notes
Chris Carpenter Not Applicable Carp gives me a great start to my team with a good matchup versus Pittsburgh
Albert Pujols .576 BA in 33 at bats,7 extra base hits Yeah, this is a no brainer vs Maholm. If you want to buck the trend and go elsewhere it may payoff big as most of the field should have Fat albert. But no thanks for me, I’ll take my chances
Dan Uggla 5/16, 2 extra base hits Dan didn’t quite make the .400 club here, but decent numbers vs Arroyo and fits under the cap with explosive power
Evan Longoria .500,3 extra base hits Good numbers versus Hochevar and he is a premier 3rd baseman. The same way Kaiser feels about his money stacks is the way I feel about Evan-It just makes me feel secure having him around
Jhonny Peralta 6/14 .429,2 extra base hits The guy that spells his name funny has been pretty darn good this year…finally. I like those numbers versus Duensing
Jay Bruce 5/9,home run,0 K’s Most impressive about this matchup vs Jurrjens is that Bruce, normally a K wizard, has never struck out against JJ.That bodes well for Jay’s ability to smash Jair around on Friday night
Mike Stanton 4/9,2 extra base hits Umm I think we are all still waiting on Stanton to get that home run derby invite from Fielder.Nice pick taking Weeks instead Prince! That sure paid off. This guy mashes and will smoke Pelfrey with his raw power
Rajai Davis 6/16, double Not taking Davis for his power, but rather his speed. He has 29,wait let me check that again….yep 29 steals on the season. He hits Lewis well and will steal at will on Colby. Not to mention Davis needs a heat check.Dude is on fire
Brian McCann .500, 3 homers Let me double down against Arroyo with Uggla and McCann.Top 3 catcher easily and I can get him under the cap on this team, I’m feeling good about it

I gotta say, I am feeling really good about this team. Check it out on Joust and see if it can avoid finishing in last place. Spots are filling fast for that 55 man tournament so you better reserve your spot now. See ya there!
