DFS Tournament Report: May 5th

It was a jam-packed night in DFS land with four major qualifiers and a million dollar tournament on FanDuel. Two Playboy seats were up for grabs as well as a seat into the FanDuel $4 Million WFBC and the DraftKings $4 Million FBWC. One person would take down a Playboy seat and the WFBC seat on FanDuel and one of the biggest names in the industry would take down the other Playboy seat. Let’s take a look at how the big tournaments played out:

FanDuel $1 Million Mega Monster

An early home run from Freddie Freeman and a good start for the Yankees saw hishouse take the early lead with 21 points after the first half hour of play. Bigpapi44 and stinger88 (#23 in TPOY race), both benefiting from a Freeman-Marte combo and stellar pitching (Miller for bigpapi44 and Pineda for stinger88) would battle it out for the lead over the next couple of hours but by the time 9:30 p.m. EST rolled around it would be dubbledees who would move into the lead with a lineup led by Miller at P, Freeman, Ellsbury, and Byrd. It would be a lead he would hold onto for the rest of the night, holding off challenges from beastmode11, bagoose, bostonstrong4life, and stlcardinalsfan84 (who would end the night with two top ten finishes worth $18,000) to take down the $100,000 first place prize. Here’s a look at the top 10 and the winning lineup:

Final Results

1. dubbledees, 70.75 – $100,000
2. bostonstrong4life, 67.16 – $60,000
3. bagoose, 65 – $40,000
4. farley413, 64 – $25,000
5. jeremyshow, 63.41 – $17,500
5. keithj1, 63.41 – $17,500
7. stlcardinalsfan84, 63.16 – $10,000
8. dooger1234, 62.75 – $10,000
9. crisk0, 62.41 – $8,000
10. stlcardinals84, 62.16 – $8,000

FanDuel $4 Million WFBC Qualifier

It would be the beastmode11 (#470 in the TPOY race) show almost from the very get go as he would be sitting in second place less than an hour after roster lock and would move into first an hour later. With a lineup containing three different hitters who hit a home run in Freeman, Carpenter, and Kelly Johnson and the explosive game from Ellsbury as well as a solid outing from Danny Salazar, beastmode11 would hold onto the lead for the rest of the night. It was always close as players like lateshow, chicagobears719, and marketmakers all were within striking distance at one point but in the end the $48,444 value WFBC package would end up in beastmode11’s account.

Final Results

1. beastmode11, 61.75 – Trip to Las Vegas along with entry into the $4M WFBC ($48,444 value)
2. marketmakers, 59.91 – $4,000
3. lateshow, 58.5 – $2,000

FanDuel $750K Playboy Mansion Qualifier ($500)

As is often the case in the higher buy-in qualifiers, it was a low-scoring affair tonight and early on it was mbomb44 (#56 in the TPOY race) and his Freeman/”(player-popup)Kelly Johnson”:/players/kelly-johnson-10381 lineup taking the lead. 3Putts (#35 in TPOY race and #12 overall in MLB) and massimo09 would take turns holding the lead until they relinquished it to the eventual winner at approximately 10:30 p.m. EST. That winner would be none other than csuram88 who would also end up finishing in third place. His lineup consisted of a Dodger stack that paid off when both Gonzalez and Rollins hit home runs. Add in a solid outing from Pineda and no one would really come close to the DFS great. The #3 rated MLB player on RG backed up his lofty ranking with a huge win.

Final Results

1. csuram88, 49.25 – Trip to the Playboy Mansion, along with entry into the $750K Playboy Baseball Championship ($13,914 value)
2. massimo09, 42.25 – $1,500
3. csuram, 40.16 – $1,036
4. mbomb44, 37 – $1,035

FanDuel $750K Playboy Mansion Qualifier ($25)

This GPP was very similar to the $4 Million WFBC Qualifier and with good reason as the same man who took that down would emerge victorious in this event with the same exact lineup. It took beastmode11 a couple of hours to move into the top spot and early on it was ganondorf holding the lead with a Colon at SP, Frazier/Andrus/Ellsbury lineup. Once beastmode11 took the top spot though he would not give it up. It looked like dougwoodley would have a shot at passing him up late in the evening as he had 18 innings remaining and was only 6.5 points behind. A closer look at dougwoodley’s lineup, however, showed that he had rostered a player from the postponed COL-ARI game and really only had 9 innings of play left. That wouldn’t be enough and beastmode11 would hold off that challenge as well as one from marketmakers to win his second qualifier of the night.

Final Results:

1. beastmode11, 61.75 – Trip to the Playboy Mansion, along with entry into the $750K Playboy Baseball Championship ($13,914 value)
2. marketmakers, 59.91 – $400
3. dougwoodley, 58.25 – $200

FanDuel $150K Grand Slam

If you’re able to put together a roster that ends up with 5 home runs and your pitcher putting up almost a 20 spot, you’re probably going to do good things. Becoming $20,000 richer is probably a good thing for most people and that’s precisely what des6464 did after taking down the Grand Slam with a lineup consisting of Greinke at pitcher and the 5 home runs from Freeman, Carpenter, Johnson, and Betts (who hit two). It wasn’t an easy victory – that much was certain – as des6464 would not take the top spot until 11:30 p.m. EST and would have to hold off hylton541 who still had players in the latest games. Those players failed to connect for hylton541 and des6464 secured the top spot.

Final Results:

1. des6464, 68.16 – $20,000
2. apbt217, 66 – $10,000
2. hylton541, 66 – $10,000
4. jyg1977, 65 – $3,750
4. bagoose, 65 – $3,750

DraftKings $4 Million FBWC Qualifier

The big qualifier on DraftKings was a small event with some of the best players in DFS taking part. Over the course of the evening players like Al_Smizzle, Comox Warrior, BeepImaJeep, ganondorft, csuram88, I_Slewfoot_U, and dinkpiece would all spend time in the top three. In the end, however, it would be LSphila with a Dodgers stack and the pitcher combo of Miller and Greinke who would coast to victory winning by over 20 points to take down the $55,000 valued prize package.

Final Results:

1. Lsphila, 172.7 – $1,000 plus package for FBWC ($55,000 value)
2. iseethecode, 151.8 – $4,000
3. dinkpiece, 150.25 – $3,000

DraftKings $150K Perfect Game

Less than an hour into play, three players were sitting atop the leaderboard with identical rosters off to a great start courtesy of Freeman, Kelly Johnson, and Ellsbury. They were draftingftw7, bw5126 (#9 in TPOY race), and superbowlhomeboy (#103 in TPOY race). Those three would not only hold the lead the entire night but they would run away from the rest of the pack (despite a big fat 0 from Altuve) to split $50,000 three ways. Check out the winning lineup:

DraftKings $300K Slugfest

The Slugfest on DraftKings would be the most exciting tournament of the night as the lead would switch hands countless times and it wasn’t until a Justin Turner insurance run in the 8th inning of the Dodgers game until a winner was decided. As late as 9 p.m. EST there was a five way tie for first place and a soobv lineup containing some relative unknowns like Blanks and Peguero looked as if it was going to take down top honors until the aforementioned Turner run moved vengven (#242 in TPOY race) into the lead with only superbowlhomeboy and his 20 innings remaining as a potential threat to change that. The best superbowlhomeboy could do was move up to fifth place and vengven emerged as the winner of the $30,000 first place prize with a fantastic score of 190.

Final Results:

1. vengven, 190 – $30,000
2. soobv, 188.7 – $20,000
3. sugarshack, 186.7 – $15,000
4. tpalioca, 183.7 – $10,000
