DFS Tournament Report: The Masters

It was a thrilling weekend of golf that saw Sergio Garcia surge from -6 with five holes to play to -9 to force a tie with playing partner Justin Rose. The playoff would be short-lived as Rose would bogey and just needing to two putt to claim victory, Garcia would sink a birdie putt to win his first major title. That putt in itself shifted the fortunes of many a DFS player but there were plenty of lineups that contained the duo together. Let’s break down the four biggest tournaments across DraftKings and FanDuel and see who are newest six-figure winners are, including one person who ended the day as a millionaire.

Here’s a quick review of the action including standings and winning lineups.

DraftKings $3.5M Fantasy Golf Millionaire [$1M TO 1ST]

AlwaysGoingDeep entered the Milly Maker as a top 600 ranked golfer on RotoGrinders and that is sure to go way up after he took home a million dollar first place prize edging out well known DFS pro, leonem aka Micheal Leone (#229 ranked Grinder including top 100 in golf). The two would share similar lineups with both of them having Garcia and Rose as well as Thomas Pieters and Matt Kuchar who both tied for fourth place. Kuchar would score a hole-in-one on the day and that big bonus would propel many rosters to the top. Leonem had Hideki Matsuyama who shot a final round 67 and Martin Kaymer who shot a final round 68 but it wasn’t enough to overcome the 137 Paul Casey shot in the final two rounds despite a late round collapse from his sixth golfer, Rickie Fowler. Two points was all that separated the two and it was Casey who provided that final margin.

Here’s a look at the final top 10 in standings and the winning lineup:

DraftKings PGA $600K Birdie

They say a tie is like kissing your sister but when that kiss is worth a sweet $37,500 not many people are going to complain too much. RascalFlatts and dpoulous10 (who also took 3rd in the Milly Maker for $75,000 would have identical lineups with Garcia and Rose leading the way along with 3rd place finisher Charl Schwartzel who went 68-68 to surge up the standings. The other three golfers in the winning lineup were Matt Kuchar, Paul Casey, and Rickie Fowler. They would barely edge out Kingpin18 who finished just .5 fpts behind the pair and it would be Matt Kuchar’s ace that would be his downfall as he wins the tournament easily if Kuchar doesn’t get that bonus.

FanDuel $750K PGA Golden Eagle ($100K to 1st)

FanDuel’s first PGA major GPP saw dwsixers dominate as he would win by over 10 points over second place finisher scrapiron1a. Dwsixers is no stranger to success as he is a top 400 ranked Grinder here at RotoGrinders who ranks in the top 600 in the three major spots (NFL, NBA, and MLB) and know will surely join those ranks in PGA. His first two round golfers included the eventual winner Garcia, Adam Scott, Russell Henley, and one of the top value plays on the board in Pieters who put up 53.9 fpts at a pricetag of only $6,600. While his final two round golfers included a struggling Phil Mickelson (he shot two over par on the weekend) he had outstanding finishes from Rose, Pat Perez (-3 for the weekend), and Kevin Chappell (-6 for the weekend). Perez and Chappell only cost a combined $10,700 and put up nearly 100 fpts between the pair.

FanDuel $444K PGA Jumbo Monster ($100K to 1st)

RotoGrinders own Derek Farnsworth, aka Notorious, would have a strong showing in this high buy-in PGA event as he finished in 4th place for $15,000. It was a three-way at the top, however, for the $100K 1st place prize with less than 1.5 fpts separating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Miket5567 would emerge with the top prize over runner-up alldayvis while bnave would finish in 3rd. The leaders managed success despite some subpar performances from the likes of Matthew Fitzpatrick, Emiliano Grillo, Kevin Kisner, and Hudson Swafford. The difference was alldayvis not rostering Rose in either part of his lineup – impressive that he was able to finish in second despite this omission.
