DraftDay Sleeper/Value Plays: June 13, 2012

DraftDay’s daily fantasy baseball salary set up requires players to be able to balance dirt cheap, bargain bin type players with a number of fantasy studs to carry your lineup. If you want to have quality pitching options and a good number of great hitters, you need to be able to rifle through the DraftDay bargain-bin and pull a few good names out. The upside of this is that DraftDay also has a number of players near the bottom of the salary scale who might be deserving of a raise. If you can find these ‘diamonds in the rough’, so to speak, you are putting yourself ahead of the pack. This article will help you find some of those diamonds, specifically for today’s player pool. For the sake of keeping the blog compact, we will only include the players who are listed at DraftDay’s cheapest salary amount, $4000. If you hit right on a couple of these players, you will definitely win a lot of leagues tonight.
Brian Roberts
(2B-BAL) $4000
Roberts low salary is likely due to his recent return from the 60-day DL, which makes him a prime candidate to be scooped up cheap. Some sites start guys off the DL at salaries much too high, but I like how DraftDay keeps them inexpensive until they prove they are healthy. Well Roberts started proving he was healthy off right in his return on Tuesday. He went 3-4 with an RBI and a K, which was enough to put up 3.75 fantasy points at DD. For those of you who love the word value, that’s just over $1000 per fantasy point. For Carlos Gonzalez, priced above $13K, to produce at that level he’d have to score around 13 fantasy points.
Brandon Moss
(OF-OAK) $4000
He’s the type of guy you want to have in your lineup for such a low price because he offers high reward possibilities for such a low salary cap hit. Since being called up on June 6th, he has a game with 7.5 fantasy points and a game(last night) with 12.5 fantasy points. There aren’t many players with that kind of potential who are so cheap. Add-in his great matchup against a shaky Josh Outman tonight and Moss looks like to be a great sleeper play.
Tony Campana
(OF-CHC) $4000
Last night, Campana went 2-5 with 3 steals while on his way to an impressive 7.25 fantasy points at DD. Campana is in the leadoff spot again tonight and the Cubs have shown that they will put him in motion almost any time he is able to get on base. He is up against the right-handed Rick Porcello, who has already allowed 10 stolen bases in his first 12 appearances. SBs are tough to project, but it’s safe to say Campana should be good to run tonight.
Trevor Plouffe
(OF-MIN) $4000
Here’s your ridiculous stat of the day. Trevor Plouffe has averaged 5.86 fantasy points per game on DraftDay since the start of June. He is absolutely on a tear in his last four games as well, putting up over 9.5 fantasy points in three of those four games. He has a tough match up against Cole Hamels tonight, but when you’re feeling it, no one can stop you. Plouffe is a solid and somehow dirt cheap play.
I hope these four guys help you out when picking your DraftDay lineups today. It’s always tough to sort through the bottom of the barrel and come up with a solid option. Good luck tonight and as always, keep on grinding.
