DraftKings To Introduce Leagues

DKLeagues300

After promising a big announcement, DraftKings has delivered with the introduction of DraftKings Leagues, its first foray into season-long fantasy territory.

Details are scarce at present, but with Leagues set to launch on Tuesday, users will soon get to experience what DraftKings has deemed “a new way to play fantasy sports with your friends.”

DraftKings Leagues will be available for any sport offered by DraftKings and can be enjoyed online or through the DraftKings mobile app. Here’s how they work:

1. Establish “commissioner status” and create your league. Give your league a name, or let DraftKings choose one for you.

2. Invite friends. If your friends don’t already play at DraftKings, you can invite them to join with the click of a button.

3. Create a contest, notify your league, and build your lineup.

Leagues will allow users to play for an entire season if they choose, providing an exclusive leaderboard to track teams and talk trash as needed.

Specific details regarding how leagues are set up are difficult to come by at present, so it’s unclear exactly how much customization will be available. Will users be able to set the length of league? Will leagues still run even if not all invites join?

A quick look at Twitter shows that DK users are curious about these and other questions, but for the moment, DraftKings is remaining tight-lipped regarding specifics.

Lots of questions still remain, but for now, it appears that DraftKings has joined FanDuel (who announced a similar season-long component last week) in making a positive move toward expanding its product and combining the immediacy of daily fantasy sports with the social aspect of season-long fantasy.

With more details forthcoming, this post will be updated as more information becomes available.
