DraftKings Millionaire Maker Trends Through Week 5

Sometimes we need to think about other ways to win in DFS other than simply playing the best plays. Looking at trends of top lineups is one route to take to do just that. One of the easiest tools to become a better tournament player is studying the trends of lineups that win or nearly win.

I’ve been keeping track of some trends for the DraftKings Millionaire Maker for the first five weeks and wanted to share some of those here in a simple format for you to understand. These are all trends from the top 10 lineups each week.

If you want to follow these yourself with a little excel work, you can create your own trends to follow by either downloading the CSV from DraftKings, or just make it easy on yourself by using ResultsDB here on RotoGrinders to gather information.

Flex Usage

In Week 5 we had six RBs in the flex and four WRs. This now has RBs in the flex in 56% of the top 10 lineups through Week 5. Only three TEs have made the flex so far this season.

Average Ownership by Position for Week 5

Once again the top lineups were littered with low-owned quarterbacks and highly-owned running backs. Aaron Rodgers was just 3.1% owned and made seven of the top 10 lineups. I’ve been stressing the importance of using the every down workhorse running backs each week here, and once again it worked very well.

Average Ownership Through Week 5

Low-owned quarterbacks paired with highly-owned running backs has been a very strong trend so far this season for top 10 lineups. In four of the five weeks we have had low-owned quarterbacks all over the top 10.

Stacks for Week 5

Winning stacks were spread out much more than they have been in the past two weeks. I like to employ a variety of stacks of 3/4/5 team and game stacks for the most part. Anything can happen in a given week, so limiting yourself to a specific stack size on a week-to-week basis can limit your ability to get into the top 10 on any given week.

Stacks Through Week 5

Team and game stacks are now dead even, with 24 of each through five weeks. Only two top 10 teams through five weeks have not had a QB not stacked with any players from his own team.

Bust Rates Through Week 5

With all three of the highest-owned RBs coming through for the field, the receiver bust rates have now surpassed the running backs as I expected to happen from last week’s article. Vance McDonald should never be 24% owned or the sixth-highest owned player on the slate in this type of tournament, considering the bust rates of the WRs and TEs are so high.

Low Owned Plays (Sub 5%) Per Lineup

We saw low-owned plays jump to their second-highest total of the season, with players like Aaron Rodgers (3.1%), Davante Adams (3%), and Odell Beckham (3.4%) all over the top 10. What on earth were these elite players doing at sub 5% ownership? Don’t be afraid to be different at the volatile positions.

Week 5 Winning Lineup

Congratulations to Slaytations, who used the Rodgers/Adams/MVS three-man team stack with a two-player stack from the ATL/PIT game and some of the must-play, highly-owned workhorse running backs to take down $1,000,000.

Hopefully this can help you look at the way you make your teams in a different light and help you make lineups more correlated with what the top lineups are actually doing.
