FanDuel: Winning at MLB Golf and $1,500 Tuesday Line Drive Lineup

Being the Best, at Being the Worst

rg misc golf freeroll results

When I first heard about the Golf Freeroll that Rotogrinders and FanDuel were holding this month, I immediately knew that this was the freeroll for me. The point of the freeroll was to put up as few of points as possible while making sure that all of your players were in the lineup that day. I started thinking that having a crappy lineup might actually pay off for once. The problem was actually trying to get a bad score.

I thought about a few different strategies that I could take. I could look for a really good pitcher and take all the hitters against him, I could pick all of my players from the bottom of the lineups, or I could just use my usual strategy for picking my team and do the exact opposite. I decided to try the last one and started by looking at pitcher vs. batter statistics.

Immediately there were five or six players that jumped out because of their terrible numbers. I thought wow maybe that was a little too easy. Then I filled in the rest of my hitters with batters that faced tough pitchers. Once again, that wasn’t too challenging. Then for my pitcher I figured I would take whoever was facing the Yanks and Matt Harrison happened to be my guy. It ended up taking me a lot less time than my usual lineup and I figured my team would pay the price for it.

But my stink-bomb team ended up being the only team with negative points and I won the freeroll! I think I only had one player that ended up scoring positive points and I was so happy. But then I started thinking and I realized that I was the best at being the worst. I placed first in a tournament to see how bad you could do. I still can’t decide if that’s a good thing but I will definitely take it and am looking forward to next month’s freeroll.

FanDuel’s $1,500 Tuesday Line Drive Lineup

Now on to tonight’s leagues. This will be the first large field tournament that I have entered since the freeroll and I’m hoping to carry some of that luck with me. I’m entering FanDuel’s “Tuesday Line Drive” and hope to see you in there. This is a $10 large field tournament that is capped at 167 players and will give out a guaranteed $1,500 in prizes. FanDuel definitely has the best daily large field leagues so if you haven’t tried them out, make sure to get in this one.

Pending lineup and weather changes, here is my team:

Position Player Salary Note
P Dillon Gee $4,500.00 This is by far my favorite pick of the night. Gee has been so good at home and faces a less than average A’s club.
C Miguel Montero $3,500.00 Montero is one of the few power hitting catchers and I like my odds against Hochever.
1B Paul Konerko $3,900.00 He has 4 HR’s his last 4 games, let’s make it 5.
2B Ian Kinsler $3,600.00 Kinsler loves playing at home, I would too in that ball park.
3B Kevin Youkilis $3,800.00 Youk’s bat has been on fire the last few games, as long as he’s not facing a lefty he is usually a good play.
SS Troy Tulowitzki $3,800.00 Give me Tulo in a hitters park against Mitch Talbot any day of the week.
LF Josh Hamilton $3,600.00 Hamilton is starting to round into form. I’m hoping his bat stays hot.
CF Jacoby Ellsbury $3,900.00 He is a threat to steal every time he is on base. And with the way the Sox are hitting that means they are sure to drive him in.
RF Jose Bautista $4,300.00 He’s got to hit a home run soon, he just has to.
Total Salary: $34,900.00

I could very easily end up scoring the lowest amount of points again, so at the very least this might help you decide who to stay away from tonight. But you never know, maybe I can pull off another lucky night.
