Not to be outdone by any of the other moves and deals taking place in the DFS industry lately, FanDuel has entered a partnership with the undefeated champion of the boxing universe, Floyd Mayweather Jr., ahead of his highly anticipated bout against Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd.

The DFS site will have their name featured on the belt line of Mayweather’s in-ring trunks, according to an ESPN report. This will put the brand’s name in front of the eyes of a massive audience, and will remain there over the duration of what should be one of the most-watched fights of this generation.

To further capitalize on this relationship with “Money,” FanDuel is offering an MLB tournament on Friday night that boasts a top prize that includes tickets to the fight, airfare, and $10,000 in cash. The event was tweeted out from Mayweather’s official Twitter account, putting it on the timeline of over five million users. As of Friday morning, only 20% of the entries have been claimed, meaning there are still plenty of chances to throw a lineup in for a chance at witnessing boxing history.

Tickets to the much-anticipated bout sold out in minutes, meaning FanDuel’s prize offering is really worth a bit more than the face value of the tickets. Only a limited amount of tickets were made available to watch the fight live, putting the winner of this contest in exclusive company among the boxing-loving public. As far as unique experiences for winning a DFS contest go, this is one of the best we’ve seen to date. The price to watch the pay-per-view from home and check out Mayweather’s FanDuel trunks will likely be around $100, while the winner of FanDuel’s tournament for tickets will pay as little as $2 to win their way into the live event.

This is truly a unique partnership from FanDuel’s perspective, and will likely attract the attention of new players who may not truly know about what FanDuel is and what they do. Unlike deals with teams and leagues, as both major DFS sites have been known to do, this marketing effort branches out into a sport that isn’t offered on the site, but that does include a healthy population of people willing to put money on the line based on the results of sporting events. It will also put their name in front of the face of the countless number of people who will tune into the pay-per-view just to witness boxing history. It will be interesting to see what other marketing moves are on the horizon for the major players in daily fantasy sports as they continue to build their userbases and boost their valuations.
