2023 Farmers Insurance Open Weather Forecast and Projections
We’re teeing off for the Farmers Insurance Open this week, and it does look like the weather will have an impact.
As usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps to soften and slow the course, meaning it helps as much as it hurts. With wind there’s no helpful side, it’s all negative impact, and the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the timeframe with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can use then use this to your advantage making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Farmers Insurance Open Weather Report & Forecast
Round 1 Weather Projection – Wednesday, January 25th
Calm in the AM. Winds around 5mph for most of the day, all in all pretty perfect weather.
Round 2 Weather Projection – Thursday, January 26th
Here’s the day when things go down hill. Around sunrise (before golfers are teeing off) we’ll see winds around 10mph, but by the late AM that picks up to closer to 20mph. Those strong 20mph winds continue through noon and into the early afternoon, before tapering off back down to 10mph by the late afternoon and early evening.
Round 3 Weather Projection – Friday, January 27th
Back to nice weather, 10mph max afternoon winds.
Round 4 Weather Projection – Saturday January 28th
One final nice weather day to close it out, 10mph afternoon winds.
Overall Farmers Insurance Open Weather Forecast
As I mentioned in the intro, when it comes to finding a usable and predictable edge for PGA, wind matters a lot more than rain. In this case, we do have a strong wind day on Thursday for Day 2, but it’s not an easy thing to avoid. Because of the condensed start times and the worst of the wind coming around noon, there really isn’t a clear way to dodge that wind. I don’t see an edge for either wave, at least not a predictable edge. Stay tuned to @KevinRothWx for the latest.
