2022 Fortinet Championship Weather Forecast, Projections for Silverado Resort and Spa

jason-day-800x480

We’re teeing off for the Fortinet Championship in lovely Napa, CA this week, and as you might expect in an area known for mild weather, there’s no major issues, just a bit of wind we’ll be monitoring.

As usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps to soften and slow the course, meaning it helps as much as it hurts. With wind there’s no helpful side, it’s all negative impact, and the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the timeframe with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can use then use this to your advantage making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Fortinet Championship Weather Report & Forecast

Round 1 Weather Projection – Thursday, September 15th

Earliest tee times can expect calm winds to start, 0-5mph. Those winds will tick up to around 5-10mph for most of the morning. By the afternoon winds will peak around 15mph sustained, with some stronger gusts. The afternoon will likely be the windiest timeframe we’ll see over the first two days.

Round 2 Weather Projection – Friday, September 16th

Similarly quiet AM weather, calm winds to start, increasing to 5-10mph by the late morning. Winds in the afternoon on Friday should top out around 10mph sustained with stronger gusts.

Round 3 Weather Projection – Saturday, September 17th

Back to the classic wind pattern of “calm in the AM, picking up a bit but still very manageable in the afternoon”. I’d expect about a 5-10mph wind in the morning, climbing to a bit over 15mph by the afternoon. Saturday afternoon is likely the highest winds of the entire tournament.

Round 4 Weather Projection – Sunday, September 18th

Rain creeps into the forecast on Sunday, but winds stay fairly manageable. Should be holding at or around 10mph.

Fortinet Championship Weather Forecast

I think there’s a slight edge to be had by fading the Thursday afternoon wave and going with Thurs AM / Fri PM groupings. That will avoid the worst of the wind over the first two days, but I don’t expect it’s going to be a huge edge, as both Thursday and Friday are similar weather-wise, with just a bit more bite to the wind on Thursday. Saturday AM golfers should have a decent edge on Saturday afternoon golfers, and Sunday is a bit of a crap-shoot with rain back in the forecast. Stay tuned to @KevinRothWx for the latest.
